Supervisor: Director of Sports Nutrition General Description: The Associate Director of Sports Nutrition for Football works under the direction of the Director of Sports Nutrition in effectively executing all day-to-day nutrition operations for the football program. This position is responsible for providing senior level work direction to fellows, paid student interns, and student volunteers. Along with the Director of Sports Nutrition, this position is also responsible for assisting in the oversight and management of Smokey's Sports Grill.Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist with all nutrition and dietitian related services provided to football student athletes.
• Assist in management of LaPorte fueling station operations, including scheduling, procurement, ordering, receiving, and inventory.
• Train, manage, and mentor incoming volunteers, paid students, and interns on policies, procedures and expectations.
• Help to provide nutritional counseling and education for individual football student-athletes.
• Help Implement nutritional plans, including consultation on team meals and fueling strategies based on schedule/activities.
• Help collaborate with sport coaches, strength and conditioning staff, sports medicine staff and related student-athlete service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to training, nutrition and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of nutritional-related medical issues.
• Help plan and implement nutritional recovery process for football student athletes.
• Help conduct body composition assessments by utilizing and maintaining appropriate technology (i.e. DEXA).
• Help conduct nutritional assessments and screenings for football student-athletes.
• Help in conducting nutritional assessments and counseling upon referral from team physician or Director of Mental Wellness, for athletes with clinical nutritional needs, such as eating disorders, IBS, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, food allergies, and diabetes.
• Help to advance the University of Tennessee Sports Nutrition Department and set the bar on high performance fueling.
• Help in the development and implementation of Smokey's training table menus, maintaining a focus on nutrient-dense foods to optimize player health and performance.
• Collaborate with the Training Table (Smokey's Grill) staff regarding individualized needs, allergies, body composition, periodization, portions, specialized diets, etc. for the purpose of menu development and meal plan execution.
• Help to create a curriculum of culinary performance methods and techniques (i.e. cooking classes/demos.
• Develop relationships with local businesses to expand the reach of the Sports Nutrition Department.
• Provide senior level work direction to nutrition fellows, paid student interns, and student volunteers.
• Collaborates with the Director of Sports Nutrition in developing, managing and overseeing nutrition budget and related policies and procedures.
• Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary sports performance team for football student athletes. University of Tennessee Position Description: Associate Director of Sports Nutrition - Football
• Communicate with Director of Sports Nutrition , Team Physician and Director of Sports Medicine to research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, distribute and monitor permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to NCAA and IOC rules, regulations and nutrition related bylaws.
• Travel with football team as required.
• Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
• Stays abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Nutrition Science, Dietetics, or a related field is required; Master’s Degree in Nutrition Science, Dietetics or related field is preferred.Registered Dietitian via the American Dietetic Association are required.Experience:
A minimum of 1 year experience working as a Registered Dietitian in collegiate athletics at the Division I level or comparable is required. Tennessee state licensure or licensure eligible is required.2+ years’ experience working as a Registered Dietitian in collegiate athletics at the Division I level or comparable is preferred. Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or eligible is preferred.Skills:
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, computer, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy and counseling techniques.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Knowledge of and compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: e.g., NCAA, SEC, USADA, WADA.
• Ability to accurately measure body weight and accurately assess body composition (preferred).
• Ability to accurately assess and evaluate energy balance and needs (preferred).
