General Summary

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication oversees all marketing and communication services for the Center for Community Engagement, the University’s Voter Engagement Coalition, and the Civic Engagement and Responsibility minor. This position supports University-wide efforts to promote the core value of civic engagement, which includes developing communication strategy for national award/designation announcements, writing press releases, and composing talking points for University administration. The position serves on the CCE leadership team, the Student Affairs Marketing Council, the Student Affairs Development Council, and other University-wide committees as appropriate. The primary duties include researching, developing, and implementing marketing plans (including fundraising efforts); managing the department’s social media presence; overseeing production of marketing materials; coordinating outreach events; providing art direction; training departmental staff on marketing policies and operational guidelines; and coordinating outreach to Illinois State University students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

In general, CCE is responsible for enacting Illinois State’s commitment to civic engagement and fostering a culture that values and rewards civic engagement. This is accomplished through a variety of programs and services with students, faculty, and staff, and in partnership with Bloomington-Normal community organizations. CCE’s work involves volunteering and service-learning, political engagement, and civic education.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's or equivalent degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field
  2. Three (3) years of work experience developing and implementing marketing strategies for a multifaceted organization, utilizing electronic and print media and social networking for marketing, and working with clients to develop marketing materials.
  3. Experience with graphic design/page layout software
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity and experience contributing to an inclusive working environment
Desired Qualifications
  1. Master's degree
  2. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  3. Knowledge of and experience with website design and maintenance, as well as social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  4. Copy writing, design, simple video/photography, and audio production and manipulation skills.
  5. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds
  6. Proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities to produce quality work under deadlines.
  7. Experience creating accessible print and electronic media
  8. Supervisory Experience
Work Hours

Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday, with option for a flexible schedule

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$53,000 - $55,000 annual, combined with an excellent benefits package

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
