Job Description
The Sarah Lawrence College Department of Environmental Science seeks guest faculty to teach open-level courses during the 2022-2023 academic semester. Sarah Lawrence is a coeducational liberal arts college and pioneer in personalized higher education. We seek guest faculty dedicated to developing the research, writing, and analytical skills of their students in addition to imparting the material of their discipline. This course may be taught as a seminar (capped at 15 students with 2 weekly 1.5-hour classes and biweekly one-on-one meetings with students to work on a semester-long independent project); or as a small lecture (capped at 30 students with 1 weekly 1.5-hour lecture and 3 weekly 1-hour group meetings with ~10 students each), based on the preference of the successful candidate. A PhD in soil science, ecosystem ecology, environmental science or a related discipline is required and college-level teaching experience is preferred.We also seek a guest faculty member to teach a course for non-majors on environmental remote sensing or energy systems during the spring 2022 semester. This guest course will be a small lecture (capped at 30 students with one weekly 1.5-hour lecture and 3 weekly 1-hour group meetings with ~10 students each). A PhD in environmental science, earth systems science or a related discipline is required and college-level teaching experience is preferred.Application materials must include: 1) a cover letter that specifies which guest faculty teaching position(s) you are applying for, 2) CV, 3) a statement of teaching philosophy including how consideration of diversity, equity, and inclusion informs your teaching, 4) a catalog-style description of the course you would like to teach, and 5) the names and contact information of 3 professional references. Review of applications will begin May 31, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

Required Qualifications
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in environmental science, earth systems science, soil science, ecosystem ecology or a related discipline (or have completed all the requirements for their degree but the dissertation by August 2022) and exhibit interest in teaching at a liberal arts institution.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
