Job Details

East Georgia State College (EGSC) is currently a two-year institution of the University System of Georgia. EGSC provides more than 1,700 students access to both academically transferable pathways and collaborative programs in occupation-related fields.

The main campus in Swainsboro offers a tight-knit community with residential options. The beautiful 400-acre pine forest campus has two small lakes, a challenging 18-hole disc golf course, an active apiary, and is one of only 115 Bee Campuses across the nation. EGSC also operates instructional sites in Statesboro and Augusta that allow students to benefit from the small class sizes and affordability of EGSC while still experiencing the vibrant student life of the larger universities with which the College shares space.

Serving both traditional and nontraditional students, EGSC has a technologically advanced teaching and learning environment that is designed to enhance student success and provides a broad range of resources, opportunities, and amenities beyond the classroom that foster personal growth. The College also offers an on-campus residential option for students to experience.

The College offers five associate degrees:

  • Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts Associate of Arts in Elementary Education Associate of Arts in Social Sciences Associate of Science in Business Administration Associate of Science in Natural Sciences

The College also offers transfer pathways that provide students with wide-ranging courses that prepare them to earn a degree at a transferring institution of their choice. Transfer pathways enable students to achieve their academic goals by providing foundation curriculum courses that successfully transfer into a related academic program at another institution.

EGSC continuously engages the communities it serves through public service and cultural enrichment. Its economic impact on its region is over $64 million.

The EGSC Bobcats are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association and Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Bobcat Athletics has four Varsity and Junior Varsity sports teams (baseball, softball, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball); Junior Varsity athletics was added in Fall 2021, and cross country and tennis began Fall 2022. The number of athletes in the program is 200-plus.

East Georgia State College’s goal for the new Vice President for Institutional Advancement is to revive the advancement and fundraising capacities of the College, in general, and rebuild the alumni relations and Vision Series, in particular.  This initiative brings programs of intellectual and cultural enrichment to the College and its broader constituency. Since its inception, the Vision Series has hosted outstanding personalities, authors, newsmakers, musical performances, dance companies, and theatrical productions. Through sponsored field trips, students and community members have opportunities to attend exhibitions and dramatic productions, not only in Georgia but also in neighboring states.

East Georgia State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

East Georgia State College Foundation

The East Georgia State College Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the cause of higher education in the area through the development of the College. The 25-member Foundation Board is comprised of alumni and community volunteers. The Board meets four times a year in March, June, September, and December.

Since 1973, the EGSCF has helped to make the future a bright one for hundreds of academically talented students. Attracting and retaining high-quality students through a strong scholarship program has always been one of the priorities for the EGSCF.

The mission of the East Georgia State College Foundation is to help transform and enhance the lives of the diverse student population by providing educational opportunities, financial support, and advocacy for students. Organization

East Georgia College, one of the fastest-growing two-year institutions in the University System of Georgia, is located in the friendly city of Swainsboro. Considered the access and opportunity hub of east-central Georgia, East Georgia College (EGC) is large enough to provide distinguished educational and cultural experiences for students and the surrounding communities. Still, it is small enough to provide an individualized personal touch assuring supportive, student-oriented quality service. East Georgia College excels in preparing graduates for successful educational opportunities as they continue their education at four-year colleges and universities throughout the state and nation.

East Georgia College offers educational value at an affordable cost with 23 associate of arts degrees designed for easy transfer to four-year institutions. EGC also offers cooperative associate of applied science degree programs, as well as an associate of science in nursing degree in cooperation with Darton College. The college also has an instructional site in Statesboro at 1525-A Fair Road. Small classes, low student-teacher ratios, and dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to student success are the foundations for academic excellence at East Georgia College.

East Georgia College offers online degrees in general studies, psychology, and sociology. Pursuing an online degree at EGC is resourceful: individualized learning and accessible faculty enable students to study and learn at their own comfortable and successful pace, which often translates into goals being reached in a shorter amount of time; and, often, when the cost of gas, parking, housing, and other fees associated with traditional campus-based education is eliminated, students can save money by earning an online degree. The flexibility, convenience, and affordability of an online degree through East Georgia College is a practical first step in completing a highly beneficial college degree.

Approximately 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students attend East Georgia College, which serves a rural, 18-county region with a predominately agricultural and manufacturing economy. Chartered in 1973, the campus spreads over 227 majestic pine-covered acres in Emanuel County and features a unique blend of nine modern buildings in a beautifully landscaped setting. Between classes, after business hours, and on weekends, students, faculty, and staff enjoy the scenic lake, series of nature trails, fitness center, gymnasium, lighted tennis courts, volleyball courts, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Emanuel County is just 16 miles from Interstate 16 and is conveniently located halfway between Savannah and Macon.

The college has a strong community service orientation, offering facilities for community meetings, industrial workshops, training sessions, regional Science Olympiad competitions, basketball, wrestling, and tennis tournaments, science camps, annual regional seminars, arts festivals, and area garden club flower shows. East Georgia College will host the Georgia state intercollegiate disc golf championship in the fall of 2008. The Intercollegiate Disc Golf Union of America sanctions the tournament. The Georgia Rural Economic Development Center, located on the EGC campus, provides unique public/private partnerships and development assistance to a surrounding 21-county region. In addition to a 42 million dollar economic impact, the importance of the college to the region is signified by the outstanding collaborative community relationships, and the 20,000+ area citizens served each year. The Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce recently presented East Georgia College with the "Large Business of the Year" award, further demonstrating its value to the community.

Students have a myriad of opportunities for extra-curricular pursuits through 35 campus organizations. Field trips, lectures, films, concerts, art shows, museums, and drama productions, combined with a comprehensive student activities program, enhance the total learning experience and prepare students for tomorrow's challenges and opportunities. The careful nurturing students receive at East Georgia College contributes to the success stories of our graduates, who can be found among the ranks of teachers, doctors, lawyers, dentists, judges, pharmacists, engineers, and business professionals.

The Vision Series is an East Georgia College program unique to a two-year institution. This privately-funded initiative brings cultural and intellectual enrichment programs to East Georgia College and the broader community. Highlights from Vision Series presentations over the past few years include Nano-technology specialist Dr. James Meindl, President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, Maya Angelou, UGA History Professor and writer Dr. James Cobb, broadcast journalist Cokie Roberts, Ambassador Andrew Young, author Terry Kay, the Atlanta Pops, the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Georgia Pacific Corporation Pete Correll, the Manhattan Piano Trio, author and television commentator Bruce Feiler, television and movie set designer and EGC alumnus Tim Earls, and many more distinguished guests. All Vision Series lectures and concerts are free and open to the public.

Dedicated to creating a more educated Georgia, East Georgia College provides valuable services through K-12 outreach programs designed to increase academic preparedness. Programs include the Dr. Seuss birthday program for primary school students; Tutoring for primary and middle school students; Campus visitation for 7th graders; PREP Summer Camp for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders; 2nd Grade Exploration, a half-day visitation program that brings 2nd-grade students to campus for a series of educational activities taught by college faculty and assisted by EGC students. All students receive a t-shirt and an EGC coloring book that reinforces the science, history, art and boomerang lessons; EGC Math Initiative, an evaluation of math skills and college math readiness for 11th graders; Ropes Course, a teambuilding and leadership initiative program for 4th – 12th graders; EGC Student Mentoring Program that allows EGC students to work afternoons at the Emanuel County Recreation Department as mentors to middle school at-risk youth; Directions, a collaborative project between area schools and agencies targeted at rising 9th graders and their parents designed to address local dropout rates and the availability of a skilled workforce within Emanuel County {this initiative won the 2006 Andy Olsen Award for Excellence in School Public Relations from the Georgia School Public Relations Association (GSPRA)}; Celebration of Education, a collaborative event sponsored by EGC and Swainsboro Technical College featuring an essay contest and scholarship to promote awareness and the importance of a post-secondary education among students within a 5-county area; Math/Science Partnership Grant, a collaboration among EGC, Georgia Tech, and area school systems to fund educator training on the new Georgia Performance Standards for Math and Science in grade bands of 6 to 8 and 9 to 12; and the Robotics/Science Initiative, a program to excite and challenge middle school students in robotics and other areas of science by touring Georgia Tech's science facilities and other scientific and educational locations.
