Finance Business Analyst

SUMMARY:

Reporting jointly to the Associate Controller and Associate VP for Planning and Budget, the Business Analyst will first be responsible for assisting with implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. Post-implementation, the Business Analyst administers and performs system maintenance and updates related to financial and operational reporting and analysis. The position is responsible for assisting with the university's strategic efforts to maintain effective and efficient business processes and controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ERP Implementation Responsibilities Include:

  • This position will serve as the internal functional module lead and the primary business process expert directly responsible for assisting the system implementers (subcontracted implementation team) with the design and implementation of the ERP.
  • Gathers, reviews, analyzes, and evaluates user needs. Provides input in planning the system design effort for the project.
  • Assists with business process re-engineering, financial data structure redesign and related business rule updates to enable an efficient implementation and adoption of best practices.
  • Coordinates ERP application setup by participating in establishing table set-up; assists with configuration of the system; assists with data mapping and manual data conversion of the Project Management modules.
  • Assists with business requirements documents, system configuration documents, and detailed functional specification documents, as assigned by the Functional Team Lead.

  • Lead for go-live testing, troubleshooting, and report writing.

Specific Post-ERP Implementation Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure system updates are tested and utilized to maintain integrity of ERP and other integrations and associated financial controls.
  • Evaluation of administrative and business processes, eliciting requirements, partnering with stakeholders and in partnership with UR Better and subject matter experts in order to optimize operational and financial programs
  • Evaluates existing technology and new requests, evaluates them against our shared roadmap and makes recommendations about scope, timing and solution scalability.
  • Utilize best practices and knowledge quantitative and qualitative analytical methods to support development of projects from conception to completion.
  • Performs business analysis, requirement gathering, data analytics, and report preparation in the ERP as well as other systems on which Finance office relies.
  • Contributes to the development of user guides, reference manuals, and training materials as appropriate.
  • Works directly with end users to train on existing reports and dashboards and help end users obtain the operational and strategic information that they need from a finance perspective
  • Partners with data analysts in different parts of the University (HR, Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Registrar, Admission, Financial Aid, etc.) to ensure that administrative data ecosystem is robust, aligned, and that reporting and analysis across platforms and data domains provides the most effective and efficient environment for data-informed decision making at the institution

  • Ability to handle complex issues, influence and problem-solve.
  • Proven ability to manage software initiatives of varying sizes and complexity and work closely with business and end users.
  • A superb collaborator and communicator who can effectively translate business needs into technical and process solutions.
  • Ability to effectively manage a heavy workload, competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate with clarity, tact, and courtesy, and demonstrate judgment and discretion in the sharing of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Resourceful, flexible, and able to anticipate and resolve problems effectively, with a capacity for understanding the relationship of specific tasks to the broader operations and administrative functions.
  • Must be detail oriented with high degree of accuracy and can thrive in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking and prioritizing is necessary.
  • Advanced spreadsheet, database and word processing skills, including understanding of relational databases.
  • Proven ability to manage software initiatives of varying sizes and complexity and work closely with business and end users.
  • Knowledge of HR or related business processes.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and time constraints.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to apply systems knowledge to troubleshoot and analyze new issues.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical skills - ability to identify key question, sources of best information, understand nuances, and present clear findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems or another related field required.
  • Three years of relevant experience with at least one full deployment project.
  • Strong process analysis experience in business system processes.
  • Experience in analyzing operational needs and anticipating ways in which HR technology or processes can offer improvements or transformation opportunities.
  • Experience teaching and supporting other members on the team, sharing knowledge freely and building up the team.
  • Prior experience in higher education preferred

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • Occasionally work after hours and weekends as required to meet planned project deadlines and respond to unplanned outages

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 9 (Hiring Range $70,887.00 to $97,475.00 annually)
