SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Food Service Worker is responsible for assisting in the overall operation of the Campus Food Services.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The Food Service Worker reports directly to the Food Service Manager and works cooperatively with the Dining Services team in carrying out assigned duties and responsibilities.

DUTIES

A. Individual is the 'ambassador' of dining services and must support HCC's goals and mission, display effective customer service interaction and be a team player.

B. Food preparation of breakfast, lunch, and catered events utilizing basic knowledge of food preparation, production and sanitary requirements.

C. Assists in the serving of food items in Hilltop Grill, Valley Eatery, Hawk Cafe and/or special College sponsored events. May include formal service, or use of grill, fryer, slicer, etc.

D. Clean and sanitize the kitchen and service areas in order to maintain HCC's high standards of cleanliness.

E. Wash dishes, pots, and pans as needed.

F. Inspect and sign for food deliveries and use 'first-in, first-out' (FIFO) procedures.

G. Operates cash register and makes deposits at the end of the day. End of day deposit includes counting and balancing register drawers with end-of-day reports, and securing all money in the safe.

H. Assists other employees in the Hilltop Grill, Valley Eatery and Hawk Cafe with daily tasks or special assignments made by the Food Service Manager.

I. Responsible for making certain the unit is locked and secure when business hours are over.

J. At the end of the work week, the 'closer' compiles temperature checklists and gets new worksheets ready for upcoming week. This function often rotates.

K. Prep and stock supplies as needed.

L. Maintain and update daily specials at either the Valley Eatery, Hilltop Grill or Hawk Cafe, and verify that point-of-sale system is in sync with regards to price.

M. Assist Food Service Manager in preparing orders for pre-approved vendors. This includes reporting of inventory items that are 'low' or out of stock.

N. Organize and complete seasonal cleaning lists, scheduled for the Hilltop Grill, Hawk Cafe and the Valley Eatery.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license in good standing, knowledge of food storage, preparation, and serving methods; basic knowledge of Health Department requirements; ServSafe Food Protection Certification desirable or ability to obtain same; must be age 18 or older; minimum one year experience working in food service, at a restaurant, school, nursing facility or hospital required. Must have basic knife skills and previously used commercial equipment such as: flat top grill, fryer, convection oven, slicer, etc.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to communicate effectively; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; able to lift 50 lbs.; able to stand for long periods of time; able to handle cash and make change; willingness and ability to conduct self in professional manner and to reflect a positive image of the Campus Food Service department. Individual must be reliable, punctual and display driving desir to work.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position requires physical demands in regards to lifting and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Individual should be familiar with working in an open concept kitchen. Individual will be working inside at most times, in and out of air­ conditioned areas, but there are occasional events held outdoors on patio or lawn areas. Must be able to handle the 'heat', both temperature and stress. Job stress sometimes occurs due to work load, last minute changes or customer demands, but the overall atmosphere is one of cohesiveness, positive energy and team work
