The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) at the University of Florida invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2023. We expect the successful candidate to significantly contribute to our dynamic scholarly environment and enhance our emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion across the department's activities.

Specifically, we seek a colleague with expertise in housing, community development, and social justice in planning with the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration in planning-allied fields at UF, including landscape architecture, law and public policy, real estate, international studies, and/or public health. We aim to enrich these areas and connect them with our strengths in planning for contemporary issues such as climate change, population migrations, and technological innovation. A preferred candidate would also bring professional experience, applied research techniques such as cross-cultural studies, mixed methods, or community engagement, and the ability to apply their work to Florida communities.

The position involves (1) teaching four courses per year in the candidate's areas of expertise, including a graduate/undergraduate housing policy and planning course (delivered in-person and online) and potentially an undergraduate general planning course; (2) conducting research and publications commensurate with a tenure-track position and being entrepreneurial in obtaining research grants; and (3) engaging in outreach and service consistent with the mission of the program. A successful candidate should be committed to working with diverse student and community populations, and have an interest in collaborating with researchers in the College of Design, Construction and Planning's (DCP) centers, including the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies, the GeoPlan Center, and the Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning, urban studies, landscape architecture, or a related field. A successful candidate should have favorable experience with student-centered classroom instruction and an interest in incorporating online modalities; a demonstrated track record or potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals and attract extramural research grants, particularly nationally competitive grants; and a willingness to serve the profession and academy. We desire candidates who have shown a commitment to teaching, research, and service toward building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive scholarly environment. Professional planning or community development experience is desired. Salary for the position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of URP consists of a collegial faculty of twelve full-time members, as well as faculty affiliated with College research centers and programs. The Department, founded in 1975 and first accredited in 1978, offers a master's degree in URP, a Ph.D. concentration with STEM designation, a graduate minor, an undergraduate minor, and a combined undergraduate-master's degree (4+1). We offer the country's first and only accredited fully-online MURP. We recently added a graduate certificate in Urban Analytics and are in the process of creating a master's degree in that field. Our faculty are among the most productive in the College and consistently attract the highest amount of research funding with close to $3 million in grants secured in the past year. As one of two units in the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning (SLA&P), the Department of URP has a strong relationship with the Department of Landscape Architecture, as well as other units in the College. The College also offers degree programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design, Historic Preservation, and Sustainability and the Built Environment. Additionally, the College has embraced the University's initiative to transform research and curriculum in artificial intelligence (AI).

Minimum Qualifications:

• The candidate must have a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning, urban studies, landscape architecture, or a related field.
• The Ph.D. is completed prior to the start date. An ABD at the time of interviews will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional planning or community development experience, with AICP or other relevant credentials.
