Job Description:

The Department of Political Science at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites applications for three (3) full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professors in American Politics to begin August 16, 2023. We especially welcome candidates:
  • Who study the legislative process, bureaucratic politics, and/or political parties at the state or national levels.
  • Whose research focuses on political attitudes, behavior, participation, activism, and/or parties.
  • Whose research focuses on policy areas such as criminal justice, health care, environmental welfare, education policy, or on the policy process or outcomes.

  • This search is part of a thematic hiring initiative in the Department seeking to hire faculty broadly engaged in research that is field-bridging, adding to our Department's long tradition of intellectual diversity and pluralism. For this thematic initiative, we are particularly interested in candidates who combine rigorous and original scholarship in keeping with our recent cluster hire theme of race, ethnicity, gender, and identity with a focus on representation.

    Candidates who address this theme through the lens of American institutions, American Political Behavior, or American Public Policy in their research are especially encouraged to apply.

    The Department, and the College, values faculty members who embrace diversity and inclusion in research, teaching, and service. The College is active in a number of university initiatives designed to increase the quality of the education experience we provide to students while at the same time helping them create a path from their studies to their future professions. Our faculty contribute actively to these initiatives, including the UF Quest program and the College Beyond 120 program. The Department also actively partners with other academic programs in the College, including International Studies, Sustainability Studies, African-American Studies, and with UF programs such as the Informatics Institute and the Emerging Pathogens Institute.

    Successful applicants are expected to teach two courses per fall and two courses per spring semester, with a mix of introductory and advanced undergraduate courses and graduate seminars. The ability to develop experiential learning opportunities for undergraduates and excel in mentoring undergraduate research in the Department's Honors and Junior Fellows programs is a plus.     Expected Salary:

    The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

    Minimum Requirements:
    Ph.D. in Political Science.
