Description:

The Department of French and Italian at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH invites applications for a full-time, onsite Language Program Director in French at the rank of Senior Lecturer. Initial contract of four years with the possibility of renewal.

The Language Program Director teaches four French language courses per year across three quarters and actively manages the elementary French language course sequence (1, 2, 3, 11). They supervise a team of lecturers and senior lecturers and coordinate undergraduate Teaching Assistants working with language courses. Other duties include organizing annual undergraduate language placement testing, mentoring and collaborating with a graduate student Resident Advisor in French, conferring with Faculty Directors of Dartmouth French study abroad programs, and maintaining a steady flow of communication with the Department Chair. We seek skilled, creative applicants who thrive in a collaborative environment. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a proven interest in program building (e.g., curriculum development, French club, affinity house, etc.) and inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom and in course content/design.

Qualifications:

PhD, or ABD with degree received by the start date, in French or Francophone Studies, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, language pedagogy, or a closely related field. Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in French (ACTFL “superior” or equivalent), a proven record of teaching language at all levels, and demonstrable experience coordinating/supervising an instructional team
