The Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology has a faculty opening for: Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Medical School with a clinical appointment in the University of Colorado GI Cancer Clinic. The GI clinic is a multi-disciplinary clinical environment with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists, providing advanced treatment approaches for gastrointestinal cancers including stomach, large/small intestine, pancreas, colon, liver, rectum, anus and biliary system cancers. As a leader in research, clinic faculty and researchers work closely to make sure that patients receive high quality care with access to clinical trial options.

The Division of medical oncology consists of a diverse group of both clinicians and basic science faculty members along with clinical trainees, research laboratory technicians, administrative assistants and administrators. The mission of the division of medical oncology is to provide optimal medical care, perform cutting-edge research, provide first rate oncology education, optimize clinical/basic science collaboration, and to provide outstanding resources for the support of these activities. The divisional staff supports the ongoing research, clinical and educational activities of the division.

Nature of Work

The position will primarily report to the Division Head of Medical Oncology. They will also report to the clinical medical director for clinical matters and to the GI medical oncology research director relating to research coordination.

They will serve in a clinical educator role, specializing in GI Oncology, with the responsibility for education of resident and medical students. They will provide care for inpatients- this will include providing consultative services for patients under the care of other faculty members within UC Health. They will also contribute to various research, educational and clinical initiatives related to GI oncology and areas of their interests and expertise, while providing support for the growth and development of the Multidisciplinary GI Oncology team.

Looking for a collaborative, team-oriented clinical/translational GI medical oncologist to join a team of 8 GI medical oncologists and 3 GI Advanced practice providers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. This group has a growing multidisciplinary practice with a dedicated clinical research team, strong clinical research portfolio and many translational research opportunities.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
    Work as a clinical/translational GI oncology researcher. Provide direct patient care in the GI oncology clinic at the University of Colorado Hospital, Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado and other UCHealth or affiliated care settings including UCHealth satellite sites. Act as Inpatient oncology attending on the medical oncology service on rotating basis. Supervise plan of care, procedures, tests and consultation ordering by Housestaff. Share on call weekend rotation. Attend weekly GI oncology multi-disciplinary conferences for case review and presentation. Attend weekly GI oncology research meeting for review of subjects on oncology clinical trials, regulatory pipelines, and review of potential GI protocols. Participate in the training of medical students, residents and medical oncology fellows. Serve as a principal investigator on investigator-initiated, cooperative and industry trials in GI oncology. May be involved in cancer clinics at CU cancer center consortium and affiliate sites. May be involved management of critical pathway and case management across the continuum of care as indicated. Support the departmental and divisional research efforts including clinical trial accrual and cultivate research mentoring. Participate as a team member in providing healthcare, interacting with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care as a responsible professional. Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records. Work with other CU researchers to facilitate translational research. Participate in regulatory and other aspects of the research support structure including IRB and scientific review committees. Fulfill the following teaching responsibilities: structured, didactic lectures on gastrointestinal cancers to medical oncology fellows during the Fellows Friday or other educational venues. Provide continuous teaching on the hospital wards to rotating medical students, internal medicine residents, and medical oncology fellows while on the inpatient service. Conduct informal teaching in the outpatient setting to all levels of trainees that accompany the faculty position within the clinic. Attend Hematology/Oncology conferences, journal clubs, et. Present teaching lectures to residents, medical students, and fellows.

The Assistant or Associate Professor reports to Christopher Lieu and Lindsey Davis, co-Directors, GI Medical Oncology.

The Assistant or Associate Professor will not supervise other employees.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at:

Assistant Professor: $193,083 to $278,040.

Associate Professor: $221,250 to $318,600.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Assistant Professor:
    Candidate must have a medical doctorate from an accredited Institution in the U.S., or equivalent. Finalist must be qualified to obtain a State of Colorado physician license. Completion of a medical oncology or hematology/oncology fellowship is required.

Associate Professor:
    Candidate must have a medical doctorate from an accredited Institution in the U.S., or equivalent. Finalist must be qualified to obtain a State of Colorado physician license. Completion of a medical oncology or hematology/oncology fellowship is required. 4-8 years of experience and achievement in clinical activity, research, and education.
