Washington and Lee University’s Department of Theater, Dance, and Film invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Design and Management as a sabbatical replacement for its general education curriculum in theatre and dance. The department believes that theatre, dance, and film are essential forms of human expression that celebrate creative collaboration and critical engagement with our world. Through the study of the practice and history of these forms, students develop aesthetic appreciation for art and culture, learn flexible problem-solving methods, acquire diverse communication skills and employ creative collaborative processes. Candidate will use an innovative approach that gives students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of stage production. 

The successful candidate will act as lighting designer / master electrician for two productions, one each term. The candidate will work closely with the choreographer/director of the production to develop the lighting for the production. They will work with faculty and staff to teach students during the implementation of the designs. Along with design and production responsibilities, the candidate will teach four classes, two each term. In the fall the candidate will teach Introduction to Entertainment Technology and a special topics class in their area of expertise. In the winter term they will teach Stage and Production Management and a special topics class in their area of expertise.

An M.F.A.in theater design is required by the time of appointment.  Teaching and design experience at the collegiate level is required. Teaching and design experience at a small liberal arts school is highly desirable.
