The Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a three-year Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) in Mathematics as the Mendelzon Visiting Assistant Professor. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and is expected to begin on July 1, 2023, and end on June 30, 2026.


The Mendelzon Visiting Assistant Professorship is a position created in memory of Alberto Mendelzon, FRSC, distinguished computer scientist, and former chair of the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Mathematics or a related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue high-level innovative and independent research and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.


Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked mathematics journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, a strong research statement submitted as part of the application, presentations at significant mathematics conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of top international stature.


Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference.


Candidates must also show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and to the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment, as demonstrated through the application materials.


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will also be a member of the tri-campus Graduate Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto. They will be expected to participate actively in the Graduate Department of Mathematics.
