FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Health Equity, Administration & Technology (HEAT) at Lehman College invites applications for two positions 1) Assistant Professor tenure track and 2) Associate Professor tenure track or tenured to begin Fall 2023 to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct health research in the Health Services Administration (HSA) program and the future BS in Public Health (environmental/global health focus). These undergraduate programs will prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed by health care administrators in hospitals, nursing homes, community health facilities, government agencies, insurance companies, health maintenance, other managed care organizations, public health departments, community-based non-profit organizations, and graduate school education in public health. HEAT is an interdisciplinary department and faculty teach across the curriculum to provide students with maximum exposure to relevant experience throughout the health care system and within the public health domain.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

1. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses at the discretion of the department Chair and the candidate’s level of credentials and experience in preferred areas, such as managed health care, financial management, research methods, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, and health care marketing through diverse learning modalities (i.e., daytime, evening, weekend, and online in hybrid synchronous and asynchronous format);

2) Provide academic advisement, student mentorship, and faculty/student research opportunities particularly in the areas of environmental public health and global health;

3) Provide service to the department, college, university, and community (i.e., committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor appointment); and

4) Coordinate undergraduate mentorship and professional development initiatives. Duties include: training undergraduate peer mentors, identifying industry experts for community events, and scheduling and curating workshops.

5) Engage in academic research and scholarship in the critical areas of environmental health, public health, and climate change. Research should align within the area of health disparities and health equity.

The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is a four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The College serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. Research/scholarship are required for this tenure-track position. The teaching load is 18 credit hours over a 9-month appointment. Student advisement is required (minimum of 3 hours per week during the academic year). Attendance at staff development opportunities, as well as participation in department and school-wide meetings, is expected. The qualified candidate must perform additional service to the College, University, and community. This role includes spearheading program-specific professional development initiatives for undergraduate students. Undergraduate scholar mentorship is encouraged. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

The Health Services Administration undergraduate program is one of the oldest at Lehman College and can be traced to the College’s founding in 1969. HSA remains committed to its mission to “educate a diverse urban undergraduate student population for current and emerging careers in public health and health services administration in public, non-profit and for-profit sectors.” With over 700 students, the program is one of Lehman College’s most popular majors. The program in Health Services Administration is currently housed in the Department of Health Equity, Administration & Technology, which is part of the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing (HS2N).

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant or Associate Professor

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or related doctoral degree in public health, healthcare administration, healthcare management, or a related field by August 1, 2023, and evidence of established or establishing a record of peer-reviewed journal publications, or the potential for active research and publication in public health and/or health services administration. Preference will be given to applicants who have practical experience in public health, health care administration and/or healthcare service delivery, health informatics, data sciences, and health technology, as well as a record of teaching excellence, which includes multi-modalities, such as online and hybrid instruction. Candidates must have a strong interest and/or the ability to teach courses in environmental health, global health, and health equity with a focus on social determinants of health.

CUNY VACCINATION POLICY

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

Assistant Professor $90,375 to $99,532

Associate Professor $104,057 - $107,789

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
