JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Student Activities (DSA) at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Assistant Director of Community Outreach. This position works under the direction of the Director of Community Outreach (CO) and develops and delivers programs and services related to student involvement in the Community Outreach area. This position supervises the Coordinator(s) of CO’s Jumpstart program in addition to having responsibility for other programmatic offerings within the areas, and works to collaboratively provide intentional and consistent programs, advisement, and support to all staff, students, and programs in the CO area as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Activities/Director of Community Outreach, this position will:

  • Hire, train, and supervise, professional staff engaged in the planning and execution of the University’s grant-funded Jumpstart program.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of all terms and conditions associated with the grant application.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Student Activities/Director of Community Outreach with the day-to-day operation of Community Outreach, including supervision of all staff; serving as a project leader on larger Community Outreach initiatives.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of budget and expenditures.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements improvements related to Community Outreach policies, procedures, and operations.
  • May act on behalf of the Director of Community Outreach as appropriate.
  • Provide oversight of programmatic aspects and student leaders associated with one or more community of practice.
  • Hire, train, and supervise students (undergraduates and graduates) in their personal and professional development.
  • Oversee the training and professional development of student leaders/participants.
  • Maintain regular contact with student leaders and community partners to resolve problems and address needs.
  • Collect and analyze program data.
  • Build and manage program partner relationships and support timely program partner data collection.
  • Recruit outside partners as needed.
  • Participate as a Learning Partner in an Alternative Break Program.
  • Provide on-site supervision of events/programs.
  • Provide, support, and participate in initiatives focusing on anti-racism, social justice, and the fostering of a campus community that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to all.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement program improvements.
  • Serve on University/Department committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of related experience (at least two years of experience serving as an advanced/senior team member or working as a project lead) OR a Master’s degree and at least four years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience with community service programs.
  3. Experience managing volunteers.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
  5. Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in student affairs, student counseling, or another related field.
  2. Experience serving as a supervisor to graduate or professional staff.
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify and address issues related to the coordination of community services.
  4. Experience advising and/or supervising college students.
  5. Experience with/knowledge of Jumpstart-type/early literacy programs.
  6. Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of program management.
  7. Experience/ability to conduct program evaluations and assessments.
  8. Experience fostering/building relationships with community and campus partners.
  9. Experience presenting information effectively to various constituent groups.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time position based on the UConn Storrs campus and includes some nights and weekends. The University offers outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The anticipated salary is $68,658 to $69,000. A telecommuting and/or a hybrid work schedule may be possible subject to authorization and University policy. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
