Job Description:


Basic Function and Responsibility:


Under general supervision, plan and direct the delivery of instructional support services needed for the completion of Biology science labs.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervise the preparation of reagents, media and growth of bacteria for all Microbiology courses on both campuses. Ensure that reagents are transported to the Skokie campus for Microbiology courses in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and train employees as they prepare labs for microbiology lab experiments. Supervise student employees as they prepare labs for other Biology labs.
  • Review experimental procedures and equipment with lab instructors as necessary.
  • Assist in coordinating BIOLOGY lab schedules and preparation guidelines for experiments.
  • Maintain the safety, security and cleanliness of assigned Oakton laboratory facilities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Requirements:


Qualifications and Working Conditions:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology or related fields or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
  • Two years related laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large.
  • Preferred qualifications include: a bachelor's degree in Microbiology or extensive experience in the preparation, and classification, and growing of microorganisms.

Physical Demands:


Light lifting up to 30 lbs. and light carrying up to 30 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Employees may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.

Supervision Received:


Administrative supervision is received from the Division Dean of STEM Functional supervision may be received from Program Chair, and/or designated faculty member and Science Lab Manager of BIO.


Supervision Exercised:


Functional supervision is exercised over approximately 8 -10 student employees.


Salary: $50,839


HOURS: Monday - Friday 1:45 pm - 10:30 pm Hours may be flexible due to the needs of the department


Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
