Position Announcement:

The College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma seeks to appoint a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Athletic Training Education Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing discipline specific instruction in graduate courses, clinical supervision, and administrative duties as the UCO Athletic Training Education Program Director.

Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is a full-time, tenure-track position.

College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. The Department of Kinesiology and Health studies has four undergraduate degrees and 3 graduate programs. Undergraduate: Public Health, Physical Education Teacher Education and Kinesiology: Outdoor Community Recreation and Exercise Fitness Management. Graduate: Athletic Training, Wellness Managment - Exercise Science and Master of Public Health - Community Engagement.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Discipline specific instruction in courses may require a variety of formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online). Clinical supervision requires continuing education in supervision as a distinct discipline and experience in scaffolding instruction and mentoring novice clinicians. Duties in teaching and clinical supervision include providing a quality learning experience: teaching, advising and mentoring students; evaluating student performance; and maintaining program/department and student records in accordance with university policies. Program Director duties include day-to-day management of the program as well as activities and documentation necessary for ongoing CAATE accreditation. Duties include graduate advisement and permissions; graduate admissions; curriculum coordination; course development; staffing and scheduling; coordination of program assessment; tracking student data; completing and submitting college, university, and CAATE reports; and so forth. Facilitate processes for continuous assessment of program and student learning outcomes with the AT faculty and Chairperson. Conduct ongoing review of the program's curriculum and syllabi to meet educational and CAATE accreditation standards.

Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor. (Athletic Training or related discipline) Must demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence. Must be professionally qualified under CAATE Borad certification, hold or be eligible for Oklahoma licensure. Must possess excellent communication skills and skills in team building, coaching, mentoring, supervision, conflict resolution, organization, delegation, problem-solving, and understanding diversity. Evidence of teaching experience at the university level. Evidence of clinical experience working in the field. Experience with CAATE accreditation activities.

Experience Preferred:

Experience with national professional service and organizations. Record of peer-reviewed scholarship.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Primary responsibilities are teaching, scholarship, and service to the University and profession. In addition, demonstrate a high level of competence and deep understanding in the area of athletic training. Compliance with program, departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to keeping office hours and making decisions regarding curriculum, assessment and program outcomes. Participate on appropriate committees at the departmental, college and university level. Committing to and understanding transformative learning in the classroom and in other opportunities provided to students.
