Java Developer

Position Summary

Reporting to the IT Manager for Research Administration Systems, the Java Developer will be responsible for: performing technical and analytic functions in the implementation of complex integrated system projects in the field of research administration; preparing technical specifications; analyzing business functions of integrated systems; designing and developing end-to-end business solutions in Enterprise Java platform; and resolving technical issues through debugging, research. In addition, the Java Developer will participate in all phases of the project in the specified functionality area, including but not limited to requirement analysis, business process review, application design, development, integration, data migration, testing, documentation, and deployment. It is expected that the Java Developer will adhere to the standards and procedures defined within the project such as using Eclipse IDE, Git version control, Oracle database, technical unit testing, and documenting solutions in JIRA.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience in complex technology projects featuring the extensive use of JEE and related technologies like Spring and Struts Frameworks; experience in web services, SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle RDBMS; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills; proven ability to manage details; demonstrated analytical skills; proven ability to take initiative, prioritize multiple tasks, and work as part of a team; experience in developing application using Java, J2EE, Oracle, Mongo DB and Node JS; knowledge and experience using University data structures and data warehouse; knowledge of Michigan State University’s business process in the field of Research, HR and Finance.
