Description:

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University is pleased to inviteapplications for a VisitingAssistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Law position in its Community & Economic Development Clinic beginning in January 2023. The Law School seeks applicants with demonstrated experience in non-profit and/or small business transactional representation. Clinical teaching experience is highly desirable. New York bar membership or eligibility and willingness to seek admission on motion is required. The Community & Economic Development provides transactional (non-litigation) assistance to nonprofits, community-based organizations, worked-owned cooperatives, and microenterprises in low-income communities in and around Nassau County, with a preference for clients that contribute to social and economic justice. Clients include newly forming organizations requiring startup assistance and more established entities that need help in connection with the more complex issues arising from organizational success and growth.

The Clinic’s legal work on behalf of newly forming start-up entities includes counseling concerning choice-of-entity decisions, incorporation, application for recognition of tax-exempt status, and basic corporate finance matters. The Clinic’s legal work on behalf of more established entities includes drafting, review, and negotiation of general commercial contracts, counseling on employment law, insurance, and tax law issues, conducting real estate transactions, and providing legal support for non-profit groups doing community organizing.

Also will be teaching courses related to Community and Economic Development Clinic. Salary and title are commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

  • JD required.
