The mission of the Bakersfield College Art Department is to provide excellent instruction in the visual arts; to prepare students to make societal contributions by becoming citizens who are visually literate, culturally aware, skilled in creative problem-solving, and aesthetically sensitive. The department has 860 majors across degrees and certificates and serves 3500 students a year in all classes.The Art Department provides college-level freshman and sophomore lecture and lecture/lab courses that:1. Lead to an AA-T in Studio Arts or an AA-T in Art History2. Satisfy general education requirements in the “Arts, Literature, Philosophy and Foreign Language” category,3. Meet transfer requirements in Art for the CSU and UC systems,4. Lead to one of three Certificates of Achievement (Graphic Design, Photography, and Media Arts)Five tenured, three tenure-track and eighteen+ adjunct faculty members staff the Art Department. Courses are offered on the main campus, at the Delano campus, various rural sites, Bakersfield College Southwest, in the Inmate Scholars Program, and online. Additionally, the department offers dual enrollment and early college sections at various high school locations including many KHSD sites and Wonderful Academy.The department is housed in two dedicated campus buildings containing studios for: ceramics, three-dimensional design/sculpture, drawing/painting, and two-dimensional design. The digital arts (photography, media arts, and graphic design) area is a CTE program and a component of the “Arts, Media and Entertainment” designated career pathway and has three 32 station Mac labs with laser printers, large format printers, and a laser cutter. In addition to these spaces the department operates the Wylie and May Louise Jones Gallery, an art gallery located off the foyer of the Grace Van Dyke Bird Library that features work by artist from across the country and hosts annual exhibitions of student work and work by local high school students and biannual faculty exhibitions.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's in fine arts, art, or art history

OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities
OR - The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. (NOTE: “Master's in fine arts” as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts.)

SALARY RANGE $ 80,439.85 - $ 139,237.88 annuallyMaximum Entry Level Salary: $ 98,542.44 annually
