The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the Dental College of Georgia, Augusta University (DCG-AU) is seeking outstanding applicants for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank depending on experience and qualifications. Both tenure and non-tenure options are available, although tenure track is preferred as well as fellowship training, specifically in cleft craniofacial surgery and/or orthognathic surgery. The Assistant/Associate position reports directly to the chair of the OMFS department at the DCG-AU.

KNOWLEDGE
In depth knowledge of current Oral and Maxillofacial surgery procedures including, but not limited to dentoalveolar surgery, outpatient anesthesia for OMFS procedures, trauma, orthognathic surgery etc. For fellowship trained candidates proficiency in their respected sub-specialty is expected.

SKILLS
Critical thinking, problem solving, implementing innovative solutions to contemporary challenges, teaching and mentoring trainees.

Responsibilities
Teaching - 70%
-Teaching (concurrent and not concurrent with patient care)
-Participate in post-graduate trainee (OMFS and other specialties) educational curriculum that includes preparation and delivery of talks during grand rounds, facilitate and direct discussions during weekly case conferences, M&M, Journal club and during daily encounters with trainees
-Teaching/supervising residents in a clinical setting
-Educational administration (e.g., serving as a course co-director)
-Mentoring of residents in clinical settings

Research/Scholarship - 5%
-Acquire all required training and skills (including but not limited to CITI, IRB etc.) to participate in and conduct clinical research in conjunction with other collaborators within the DCG-AU, AU at large as well as other institutions and/or independently.
-Present abstracts, deliver talks either research originated/related or other educational material (clinics etc. at the annual AAOMS scientific meeting and/or scientific meetings (i.e. ACOMS, AACMFS, ADA, local chapters etc.)
-Mentor and supervise residents in clinical research activities
-Publish in peer reviewed journals on a consistent basis, at the minimum one manuscript

Service - 5%
-Serve as member at committees within the DCG-AU, AU at large, within AAOMS, ABOMS and local professional chapters.
-Participate, Develop and Direct CE courses.

Clinical/Patient Care - 20%
-Participate in the AUDA Practice Group
-Develop own faculty practice within area of interest/expertise
-Provide clinical care to patients while demonstrating technical skills and teaching both post-graduate trainees and dental students.

-Continue expansion of department's cleft craniofacial service
-Support growing number of orthognathic surgery referrals
-Work closely wiht DCG departments of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, as well as the AUMC OBGYN, Neonatal Intenstive Care and Pediatrics Craniofacial teams.

Required Qualifications
The candidate must have a DDS or DMD degree from a CODA accredited dental school and be eligible for board certification or be board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The candidate must possess or be able to obtain an appropriate license for clinical practice in the State of Georgia. The candidate must also have Georgia Anesthesia Permit, DEA, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
Candidates must be either ABOMS eligible or ABOMS diplomates. Fellowship trained individuals must demonstrate appropriate training with supporting surgical log and certificate of completion of fellowship signed by the fellowship director. Fellowship Director or equivalent authority must sign off on trainee's competency in the fellowship specific procedures to support credentialing and hospital privileges. Additional degrees such as MS, MPH, MBA etc. are highly desirable.


Assistant Professor- No prior experience is required for the Assistant Professor rank. Associate Professor- At least five years of full-time service in the rank of Assistant Professor. Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.


    Preferred Qualifications
    DDS/DMD from an ADA-accredited dental school and/or combined MD; graduate of a CODA-accredited OMFS/MD combined program.

    Candidates with strong commitment to academia, teaching, research, scholarly activity and service to the community are preferred.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits
    This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

    Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
