POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD invites applications for the position of Academic Dean and Provost, to begin as early as June 2023. As one of five federal service academies, USNA is a premier undergraduate college dedicated to the moral, mental, and physical development of the next generation of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps officers. We seek a Provost who will foster academic excellence, collaboration, open communication, and diversity, equity, and inclusion within our academic community.

As USNA's chief academic officer, the Provost is a senior leader under the Superintendent, our college president. The Provost guides all areas related to the academic development of midshipmen and provides institutional vision for 26 majors across the Schools of Engineering & Weapons, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Mathematics & Science, as well as a robust general education program designed to prepare all students for their future careers as military officers. Additionally, the Provost oversees: the recruitment, retention, and development of faculty; the implementation of USNA's strategic plan; and assessment and accreditation of our academic programs. The Provost also supervises the academic curriculum of the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
• Senior-level academic leadership experience
• Experience in undergraduate teaching and mentoring
• A research and publication record commensurate with the rank of Professor
