The Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia, at Augusta University is currently seeking a board certified/board eligible General Pediatrician at the Professor level. This position will include academic/teaching. Responsibilities within the Medical College of Georgia and the Department of Pediatrics Residency Program. The position will also provide clinical services as part of the Children's Hospital of Georgia and associated ambulatory clinics.


Responsibilities
Education - Residency Program - 20%

Serve as Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting the Program Director and Program Coordinator in ensuring ACGME common and specialty requirements are met
  • Serving as core pediatric faculty member
  • Development and oversight of curriculum/curricular elements as assigned by Program Director
  • Performing administrative duties as assigned by Program Director
  • Participation in residency program committees including program evaluation, clinical competency, and selection
  • Serve as a faculty mentor and interviewing residency candidates during recruitment season
  • Engaging in professional development activities which support individual goals in the areas of education, leadership, and/or scholarship

    Education - Academic Affairs - 20%
    Serve as a Faculty Facilitator for Case Based Learning (CBL): CBL is a major part of the foundational sciences courses that students take during the 18 month pre-clerkship curriculum. The purpose of case-based learning (CBL) is to help structure a facilitated learning activity for the students.

    CBL Faculty Facilitator
    Responsibilities
  • Review the CBL case, learning objectives, and assigned article(s) prior to the session.
  • Review facilitator guides, supplemental materials, and faculty development podcasts pertaining to the CBL cases. These are posted in advance in the Microsoft TEAMs Faculty Channel.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for each session.
  • Model and provide students regular feedback around relevant MCG programmatic competencies.
  • Communicate with the other facilitators (1-2) for your group to ensure that expectations are consistent across the week.
  • Coordinate with the other facilitators (1-2) for your group to complete online evaluations of students performance in CBL 2x per module by meeting with the student for the formative (mid-module) and summative (end-module) assessment of their CBL skills
  • Submit assigned evaluations in a timely manner in One45.
  • Review the weekly reflections students submit to the D2L course management system and provide feedback if needed. This task can be divided among the facilitators for each CBL group.
  • Assist with assessments, such as end of module problem solving exams, as needed.
  • Participate in all faculty development/upskilling sessions.
  • Participate in any CBL remediation that may be needed.
  • Participate in other CBL related duties including, but not limited to, assessments, case review & editing, developing or revising assessments, and/or faculty development

    Patient Care/Service - 60%
  • Maintain board certification in Pediatrics.
  • Provide high-quality, comprehensive care in General Pediatrics in an effort to improve quality, safety and patient satisfaction.
  • Participate in assigned clinical duties with other General Pediatrics faculty members. This includes outpatient services and on-call duties specific to the general pediatrics clinical service.
  • Meet all metrics associated with Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE). This includes but is not limited to: attendance at quality meetings (e.g., M&M, Quality Unit Council, etc.), proper management of documentation, completion of all online compliance training modules, attendance at faculty meetings, etc.
  • Become increasingly productive through the provision of clinical services in General Pediatrics. The expectation is that 100% of your clinical FTE (0.50) will be providing services through the Children¿s Hospital of Georgia and various outpatient clinics.
  • Meet and maintain wRVU productivity targets as set forth by the department chair and MCG Dean¿s Office through clinical services provided. Current target equates to 65th percentile for Developmental Pediatrics as established by the Vizient AAMC Clinical Practice Solutions Center (CPSC), multiplied by clinical FTE. Productivity targets are subject to change.
  • Promote good professional relationships and build referral patterns with Augusta University physicians and physicians outside of Augusta University (referring physicians in community, region and state).
  • Provide prompt feedback to referring physicians.

    Required Qualifications
    Medical degree from an accredited medical school/university; Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatrics; must have or be eligible for a State of Georgia Medical License; DEA; CPR. Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and people management skills.

    Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits
    This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
