Nature of Work:

This is a full-time postdoctoral position that reports directly to Darleen Sandoval, PhD, in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The fellow will be responsible for conducting research understanding the role of the gut-brain axis in metabolism. We conduct a wide array of studies examining mechanisms for bariatric surgery and the physiology and pharmacology of the GLP-1 systems.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • collect data from a range of in vivo physiological and behavioral studies predominantly in genetic mouse models, learn a variety of surgeries, learn gold standard methodologies to study glucose and lipid metabolism, and will use neuroscience, molecular biological, and/or immunohistochemistry techniques.
  • be responsible for working with the PI to direct research projects which will include experimental design, data collection, analysis (graphing and statistics), quality control, and writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • work well independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team.
  • maintain detailed and organized research notes, write research manuscripts and grant proposals.

Salary Range:

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at $53, 760.

The above salary rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD and/or MD in nutrition, physiology, neuroscience, or related biological science discipline. Preclinical research experience in mice. Recent research experience and publications relevant to metabolism, neuroscience, or physiology. Proven ability to work independently within a research lab.

    Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications
    Proven experience and familiarity with obesity, nutrition, and/or physiology in mouse models.
    Experience in small rodent handling including basic procedures (gavage, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections), and basic tools of assessment of glucose homeostasis in animal models. Research experience and/or interest in the role of the gut-brain axis in regulation of metabolism. Experience in published science writing and in scientific presentations.
