The Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology has an opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow.



Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

This position reports directly to Dr. Antonio Jimeno, Department of Medicine and is responsible for performing the research summarized below. This position may supervise the work of graduate students and technicians.

This position is for a PhD post-doctoral researcher at the junior level, which will provide a mechanism for the hired individual to transition into a successful independent researcher in the field of head and neck cancer biology and immunology. The research focus of the laboratory is to study head and neck cancer, generate novel in vitro and humanized animal models for in vivo immunology studies and immuno-oncology drug development, characterize tumor-stroma interactions. One project focuses on studying PD-1 interaction with its ligands and investigate how this process can be prevented or reversed while another project focuses on studying new fusion events and therapies that may target them in both squamous and salivary gland head and neck cancers. The proposed training will be conducted at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Highly motivated applicants who are eligible for NIH training grants are preferred.

We aim to improve our knowledge of head and neck cancer biological and immune evasion mechanisms, providing an intensive training, and ultimately provide for transition into a successful independent investigator in academia or industry. All of the duties listed below are to achieve this goal in specific categories.



Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time

[Perform primary research]:
    Participate in the initiation of the research projects Carry out his or her projects independently Develop research protocols Perform experiments as related to research project Trouble-shooting and problem-solving as related to the research project Record results of experiments: Tabulate research data and keep a detailed, easy to understand laboratory notebook Interpret the experimental results Collaboration with PI and others in the lab Conduct literature searches Training of laboratory personnel in experimentation techniques Preparation of tissues, cell cultures, blood samples, etc. for testing Measure and monitor tumor formation and treatment in mice Animal care related to research procedures Use of patient tissue samples (PBMC's, serum, normal tissues, tumor tissues) obtained from tissue banking Perform recombinant DNA work Modify, test, verify and analyze research data Prepare samples for analysis by various instrumentation Develop and maintain research databases Self-motivated, hard-working, and willing to work with flexible hours Other duties as assigned by PI

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at: $54,840 - $60,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
    Applicants must have obtained a PhD in cancer biology, immunology, or a related field.



Preferred Qualifications
    The successful candidate should have independent research skills and a track record of success in the laboratory.
