Job Responsibilities

This position reports to the Dean and/or Associate Dean of the Manufacturing and Maintenance Division and/or the Welding Technology Program Coordinator. This position will provide an in-depth understanding of the duties of a ship fitter and develop a safety-conscious attitude to prepare students for a career in heavy steel manufacturing. The instructor will teach the curriculum in all aspects of shop fitting, including but not limited to performing basic math and measurement calculations with fractions, decimals, and basic plane geometry, Interpretation of blueprints and schematics, Interpretation of welding processes and symbols, Identifying essential shop tools and equipment, Demonstrating competence in basic shop fitting tools and equipment applications, performing basic cutting operations with OFC and Plasma Arc and performing basic layout procedures from blueprints and job specifications.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

This position requires five (5) years’ work experience as a ship fitter and a high school diploma. Candidates with an Associate degree in welding technology or a closely related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

The shipfitting instructor will submit reports on time, practice effective class management, prioritize duties and use time wisely, adhere to class schedules and meeting times, provide adequate classroom/lab supervision, and maintain accurate records. Handle students’ work and records in a professional manner and perform other duties as required
