Riverland Community College invites nominations and applications for the position of President.

Chancellor Devinder Malhotra and the internal and external communities at Riverland Community College seek a president who will lead with enthusiasm, transparency, visibility, and collaboration. A leader who understands the value of an aspirational vision and has experience leading internal and external communities to achieve that vision through the effective execution of the college’s strategic plan. A leader who values continuous visibility and engagement across the three campuses and college and community centers. A leader who builds close relationships with area schools, colleges, and universities and with the region’s industry and businesses. A leader who will strategically contribute to the improvement of Riverland Community College and its region as well as to the Minnesota State system.

The desired characteristics of the successful candidate are described below. The community seeks a leader who is flexible, motivates, “hits the ground listening”, strives to understand the pulse of the college and communities served and adjusts as necessary to enhance that pulse, has an abiding commitment to social justice, and is committed to building strong collaborative relationships with faculty and staff in partnership to achieve the college’s mission, vision, and values.

Learners of all ages find exceptional education and a student-focused experience at Riverland Community College. As a comprehensive two-year college, we give the opportunity to pursue career goals and improve knowledge and skills at a great value. We pride ourselves on small class sizes, personal instruction, and true hands-on learning.

Approximately 4,500 students are served annually through a wide range of credit-based opportunities at our southeast Minnesota campuses: Austin, Albert Lea, Owatonna, and online.

Riverland Community College serves an area of southern Minnesota that is rich in agriculture, industry, culture, and recreational assets. It is an increasingly diverse region with many languages and cultures expressed. The college has worked closely with area communities and organizations to welcome and prepare new residents for productive careers in the state. The college has also built a reputation for developing niche programs that have drawn national and international attention, and that meet the needs of the region’s employers. The new president should have experience in, and a strong understanding of, technical skills to support faculty, industry, and staff in continued programmatic innovation and development to meet the needs of the community and industry through education for employment. The successful candidate will also be well-versed in enrollment, retention, and student success strategies

At Minnesota State we provide the opportunity for all Minnesotans to create a better future for themselves, for their families, and for their communities.

With 26 community and technical colleges and seven state universities on 54 campuses, Minnesota State serves nearly two-thirds of the entire state’s undergraduate student population, and we serve more Black, Indigenous, and students of color than all higher education providers in the state, combined.

We are committed to equitable outcomes for all our students, and in 2019 committed to eliminating educational equity gaps at every Minnesota State college and university by the year 2030. Achieving this goal, called Equity 2030, is a moral imperative, and an economic imperative for our state as our population continues to grow more diverse, and will ensure Minnesota has the workforce it needs for generations to come. We are working toward meeting our Equity 2030 goal through hard work, robust data analysis, targeted programs to improve outcomes, and partnerships with community organizations, employers, and the state legislature.

The next president will possess strong leadership skills necessary to provide vision and direction to Riverland Community College. They will have a reputation as a leader with vision for the future of higher education. As well as a proven track record of being a visible, engaged and accessible presence with students, alumni, community leaders, and friends. An earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred, but not required.
