SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Clinical Facilitator, supervises, educates, and evaluates nursing students in the nursing laboratory, simulation centers, and clinical settings. Delivers didactic instruction for the lab. This entails creating a student-center learning environment accessible to individual learners with diverse educational needs and goals through guided instruction, which is individualized to meet student learning styles. Collaborate with academic partners, faculty, and staff, to help students during their academic program and as they prepare for success with the NCLEX-RN exam. Work with students individually and in small groups to assess learning styles, identify strengths, and discover opportunities for academic development. The position is grant funded and subject to continued funding.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Serves Students. Teach as assigned. Provides clinical/lab instruction and supervision of students in the clinical and lab settings, adhering to the policies of the clinical setting and AWC. Plans student learning experiences; accomplishes course goals and lesson objectives; enforces a grading policy that meets or exceeds the requirements as defined in the Arizona State Board of Nursing (AZBN) rules. Guide and supervise the practice of students in the nursing laboratory, simulation center, and clinical settings utilizing the course material provided by nursing faculty and the Clinical Facilitator. Orients students to the clinical and laboratory setting. Maintain safety and organization of the nursing laboratory including the proper functioning of equipment. Challenges the students’ clinical reasoning skills and fosters the application of skill and knowledge development. Assess the ability of students in performing assigned tasks. Communicate with faculty to meet student needs, providing feedback regarding the progress or status of individual students. Prepares, delivers, and assesses learning activities that are consistent with Course Student Learning Outcomes. Demonstrate current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of college programs and accurately communicate academic policies and regulations to students. Demonstrate effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy; professional environment; effective communication; and first-class service.

Remain current in his/her discipline, updating course content when appropriate. Maintain standard syllabus/outline for la ab course in accordance with program/procedures. Update lab course syllabus/outline as needed. Develop, implement, and evaluate the program of learning; and develop and implement standards for the admission, progression, and graduation of students Course Team: Provides weekly and/or timely feedback to the faculty team regarding individual students at risk of failure and/or group performance that may impact their clinical success. Provides feedback to their course faculty team and the clinical facilitator, regarding the clinical setting’s effectiveness in supporting student accomplishment of the course and program outcomes. Develop and maintain good professional relations with students and employees in clinical sites.

Community Responsibility: Participate in professional developmental activities outside the College, such as but not limited to, community events, boards, clubs, and conferences. Support partnerships with local businesses and community/professional organizations, working in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. Remain current with applicable local, state, and national standards/licensures/regulatory requirements that directly impact and influence programmatic offerings and instructional methodologies. Maintain individual certifications as required by local, state, and national licensing and/or regulatory agencies. Serve on local and state advisory committees as directed by the Director of Nursing. Other duties as assigned.

College Responsibility: Supports and participates in strategic initiatives and performs other duties as assigned. Working and coordinating with Student Services and the Director of Nursing actively participate in student recruitment, retention, and advisement activities and programs. Participating in institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, task forces, ATF, club sponsorships, facilitation of advisory committees, and student/faculty recruitment. Participation may be directed by the Director of Nursing. Other duties as assigned.

Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
