The Department of Physical Education, Sport, and Human Performance (PESH) at Winthrop University is seeking an innovative and involved tenure-track assistant or associate professor to teach in and help coordinate an established program in Athletic Training. The individual will help foster the initial cohort of students in the MS in Athletic Training. We seek a candidate who will be an exemplary leader, teacher, scholar, and active participant in the college, on campus, and with community partners. 

The Richard W. Riley College of Education (COE) has a strong reputation in the preparation and advancement of highly qualified professionals for South Carolina and the country. Winthrop University’s Athletic Training program is CAATE-accredited, and the PESH faculty are known for engagement with students in a variety of co-curricular endeavors. The university enjoys close proximity to Charlotte, NC, high quality local schools, and an affordable cost of living. The college is committed to building a diverse educational environment. Major Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in athletic training at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Support the vision for program initiatives, curriculum development, and accreditation, including implementation of the master’s level program;
  • Serve as a productive faculty member in all areas of university expectations (student intellectual development, scholarly activity, professional stewardship, and academic responsibility);
  • Develop and implement a faculty practice in athletic training that provides service to dance majors and students referred by student health services and that provides an additional clinical experience site;
  • Lead efforts in cohort development, including recruitment and selection processes;
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Foster collaborative activities with medical and sport organizations to develop internship placements and collaborative service to the profession;
  • Use technology to enhance student learning, increase access, maintain program data, and facilitate recruitment and retention efforts; and
  • Engage in teaching and other program-related activities in the evenings, summers, online, and occasionally weekends, as needed.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate with specialization in athletic training or closely related field (ABD with completion by summer 2023 will be considered)
  • BOC certification
  • Experience as a provider of athletic training services to scholastic, intercollegiate, or professional athletes
  • Record of successful teaching and foundation for active scholarship
  • Ability to work collaboratively with departmental and other university members

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability in the use of technology and digital tools for instructional purposes
  • Experience with accreditation procedures (CAATE)
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Expertise in emergency procedures and therapeutic intervention as instructional areas

Employment Conditions:

Position is full-time, nine-month, tenure-track with an expectation of summer employment if enrollment is sufficient. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
