Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Student Financial Services (SFS) Assistant Manager, the Accounting Technician assists with administrative functions associated with student accounts receivable.

Job Summary:

Greets and assists office visitors, answers the telephone and responds to e-mail inquiries from parents and students related to student account charges, payments, schedule protection and financial aid transactions. Instructs students and their parents on use of the third-party payment portal. Assists with student billing and “holds” maintenance. Provides clerical assistance, including filing, office organization and scheduling department meetings. Orders and maintains office supplies. Maintains the SFS Procedures Manual. Prepares Invoices for the MacFeat Early Childhood Laboratory School, manages the McFadden Loan checking account, and prepares the student account summary. Prepares check request vouchers for NCAA transactions. Reaches out to students to maintain current and accurate permanent addresses for projected refunds. Assists with data entry in Banner Student related to posting miscellaneous transactions, including tax liability and department fees. Gathers data for reporting purposes. Assists with hold placements and removals. Adds fees to student accounts for returned checks. Responsible for record retention of SFS materials and escheating uncashed refund checks. Contacts students regarding uncashed refund checks. Sends and processes stop payment requests.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma and three years of clerical or accounting experience or an Associate’s degree and one year of clerical or accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree or higher in a business-related field and accounts receivable and customer service experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:

Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices, preferably related to accounts receivable. Good mathematical and computational skills. Ability to analyze financial data and perform clerical accounting or bookkeeping functions with a high degree of accuracy; create and revise Excel spreadsheets; effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously; establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors and the general public; and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
