Job Description

The Department of Communication, History, & Philosophy seeks applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment in Philosophy beginning in Fall 2023. Area of specialization is open, but an ability to teach introductory courses in Ethics and Logic is desirable, as is the ability to develop additional upper level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate philosophy courses and have service expectations within the department. The base teaching load at A&M-SA is 4/4. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Master's degree in Philosophy or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.

  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Philosophy.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in philosophy or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by the time of appointment

  • Experience with teaching lower-division philosophy classes preferred.

  • Experience with hands-on teaching techniques preferred.

  • Experience in culturally diverse settings preferred.

In a letter of interest which explains teaching experience, please also speak to the following topics:

  • Courses prepared to teach or develop

  • Engagement with diverse perspectives in philosophy

  • Approaches to teaching students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students
