Position Summary:The Career Readiness Instructor works in a part-time capacity servicing internal and external clients of the Corporate and Continuing Education Department. Instructors will engage in an instruction environment with a diverse student population with instructional content focused on workforce development by offering results-oriented training designed to equip employment candidates to understand how individual contributions in the workplace drives career success and organizational results. Instruction content will also focus on workplace accountability tools to support self-awareness and development of individual job performance and operational contribution, support of team structure, decision-making, task prioritization and adequate follow-through with responsibility
Reporting Relationship:Direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Workforce and Community Partnerships-Workforce Trades
Essential Responsibilities:- Based on existing contextualized curriculum, prepare lesson plans by adapting those already created with engaging activities and exercises that illustrate the point of the lesson.
- Monitor participants’ compliance with attendance and progress, and report any individual student issues to unit manager.
- Be responsible for the quality of the program being presented, student discipline, classroom maintenance, safety, behavior management and the security of all individuals and supplies at their disposal.
- Work with management and administrative staff to set high and measurable goals for student achievement.
- Adapt teaching style and strategies to maximize student learning and retention.
- Maintain classroom documentation based on assignments from contextualized curriculum and enter data appropriately and accurately, as necessary. This includes but is not limited to goals and career assessments, resume worksheets, and cover letters.
- Accurately complete and submit attendance, mid-term and final grades as required.
- Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars pertinent to position’s responsibilities. Represents the College in relevant local, state and professional organizations.
- Position requires flexibility, evening hours and some weekend work, as well as local travel for classes and partner sites throughout the district.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the department consistent with the role of this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work or other appropriate field.
- At least two years of career development, youth development, social services, or teaching experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work with a variety of populations, including at-risk youth and adults, and individuals with disabilities.
- Independent, creative, self-starter who exhibits good judgment.
- Flexible and adaptable.
- Highly organized and works well with other.
- Knowledge of pedagogy and adult learning theory.
- Commitment to continued professional development of self.
- Current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in psychology, education, social work or other appropriate field
2. Knowledge of higher education systems, contract administration; and approval mechanisms for industry recognized professional credentialing.
3. Experience establishing programs in workforce development.
4. Knowledge of continuing education customized training needs of businesses and community constituents.
