Departmental Objective:

In support of Christopher Newport University’s mission, the mission of CNU Dining Services is to
provide CNU students with the highest quality in food and dining experiences. In doing so, we are

In addition, Dining Services aspires to provide high levels of excellence and professionalism in rendering superior customer-focused services to students, faculty, staff, guests, and visitors of the University, with close attention to detail and with a caring and concerned approach, targeted at delivering outstanding results in serving customer needs and achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.

This is a 9-month position paid over 12 months. Position is eligible for medical & dental insurance, retirement & life insurance benefits, and paid sick/personal leave. Position report dates are August 1 through April 30 of each year.

Purpose of the Position:

Under the direction of the DSU Dining Operations Manager and Asst. Retail Dining Operations Manager, prepares and produces assigned menu items necessary for the service of meals according to recipes and established standards. Assigns and monitors jobs of subordinate personnel. Perform other duties to include but not limited to Line serving and cleaning.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Required:
Ability to read, write and demonstrate basic math skills.

Knowledge of all types of cooking methods by reading and converting recipes.

Knowledge of all kitchen equipment.

Good organizational skills, ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently.

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a fairly continuous basis.

Ability to communicate in writing or verbally to both supervisors and subordinates.

Ability to work in congested work areas and areas where wet processes are used.

Ability to wear protective footwear.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required:
High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience Required:
Previous experience in high volume kitchen.

Supervisory experience working in a kitchen.


Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Education Preferred:
ServSafe certified.

Some Culinary Arts School or equivalent practical experience.

Experience Preferred:

Previous experience at a college or university.

Previous experience in a Chick-fil-A unit.

Salary Information:
