Job Summary

Please note, this position is with the System Office at the PA State System of Higher Ed, not Kutztown University. Although this position is primarily remote, the ideal candidate will live in Pennsylvania, with infrequent travel to the Office of the Chancellor offices in Harrisburg, or other Universities.

This position is currently open for current State System of Higher Education employees only.

The Data Scientist supports shared service Analytics’ system-wide efforts to create, maintain and enhance a data-driven environment. The individual is responsible for significant input in the creation of data systems for utilization to model complex institutional data, discover insights, and identify opportunities through the use of trend, longitudinal, and national comparison-based analysis. This data expert is able to analyze big data and engage in predictive modeling and other analytics needed to facilitate initiative at the System. There will be a focus on transforming data to information for use in strategic planning and decision making.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of five years or experience working in a System University Institutional Research office
  • Proven proficiency in Visualization development (Tableau, SAS) for high level analyses, predictive modeling, and KPI monitoring
  • Proven proficiency in the use of computers systems and statistical packages and programs such as Tableau, SAS, SQL, and R
  • Proven proficiency with Federal and State reporting
  • Proven proficiency in System leadership written and verbal communications
Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to take leadership of a project and work with stakeholders to identify report/visualization requirements, key questions, and produce presentation quality products.
  • Ability to query complex database systems to collect and organize data for research and informational purposes
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, report, and communicate complex ideas and research findings clearly and concisely
  • Willingness to learn new emerging technologies
  • Clear communication and presentation abilities with university leaders and colleagues
  • Proficiency with Tableau and SAS server structure and security
  • Experience working with external state and federal governments, external agencies and accrediting bodies (PDE, National Student Clearinghouse, College Board, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team

Comprising five colleges - Visual and Performing Arts, Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Graduate Studies - Kutztown University offers a diverse range of excellent academic programs to prepare individuals for successful careers.

Located on 325 acres in Kutztown (population:4,500), the university is 20 miles from both Reading and Allentown, 90 miles from Philadelphia and 100 miles from New York City. LVI International Airport is 25 minutes from campus. The campus is in a beautiful rural Pennsylvania Dutch community, an easy walk from the borough of Kutztown which has ample stores and shops to meet the needs of students.

Currently, 10,193 students are enrolled at the university from 26 states and 51 nations. About half of the undergraduates live in residence halls; the rest live at home or in nearby apartments.
