Financial Aid Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Financial Aid Counselor will be responsible for supporting all aspects of financial aid processing including, but not limited to: financial aid counseling, FAFSA verification, awarding financial aid, supporting front line staff, coordinating appeal requests, participating in outreach and FAFSA completion programs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a case load of current students, by serving as the primary point of contact in the Financial Aid department for current and prospective students.
  • Counsel and advise students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, and indebtedness.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Assist with the management of the Financial Aid student worker staff.
  • Work closely with various departments such as Admissions, Bursar, Advising, and Registrar to assist students efficiently.
  • Participate in outreach programs such as Open House, Accepted Student Days, FAFSA Nights, and New Student Orientation.
  • Work with the Director and senior staff to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as the internal policies and procedures of the University.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by the Director and as departmental/University needs indicate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in Higher Education preferred. Time working as a student employee will be considered on a pro-rated basis.
  • Demonstrate strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to multi-task.
