The Division of Medical Oncology has an opening for a full-time Research Instructor within the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

Nature of Work

This is an at-will Research Instructor position in the Division of Medical Oncology and the Population Health Shared Resource (PHSR) at the University of Colorado Cancer Center. The PHSR has a health services research/data-intensive component and a behavioral science component. The PHSR data component supports access to, and expertise in, data management, statistical analyses, and mapping/data visualization of population-based databases (e.g., Cancer registry data, SEER-Medicare, All-Payers Claims Database, electronic health records). The behavioral science component supports research involving patient and community-focused approaches, including qualitative methods (e.g., individual interviews and focus groups), survey design, accrual and data collection in clinic and community settings, medical record review and extraction, psychometrics, and participatory research.

Supervision Received

The individual holding this position will report directly to the PHSR co-Directors.

Supervision Exercised

The individual holding this position will lead a team of PHSR analysts and behavioral research assistants with expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods.

Examples of Work Performed

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing data and conducting analyses on projects assigned, meeting with investigators to determine the parameters of their projects and consulting with the PHSR Directors to identify the best resources to meet user needs; maintaining appropriate records of work/service performed; working with the Cancer Center's Administrative Office to ensure users are invoiced in a timely manner; and preparing data regarding PHSR use to support the Cancer Center's annual reporting requirements.

Examples of Work Performed
    Provide scientifically rigorous database management and statistical analysis for multiple grant funded research projects Provide scientific guidance to investigators and analysts Provide expertise and leadership in study oversight, data management, data analysis and manuscript preparation Collaborate with Principal Investigators and other stakeholders to discuss project needs Provide input into publications and interdepartmental projects, including grant proposals Conduct analysis of SEER, SEER-Medicare linked data, All-Payers Claims Databases, and other sources of population data, including electronic health records. Oversee progress of projects assigned to PHSR staff and report on progress of projects to the Directors and/or users as needed Provide direct supervision of shared resource staff along with the core Administrator and Cancer Center Operation team In collaboration with PHSR Directors, create new services and strategic plans, including the acquisition of new datasets and other research tools to improve cancer prevention and control research In collaboration with PHSR Directors, promote the PHSR among Cancer Center members and university Identify issues related to operational efficiency and share results with leadership Independently prepare presentation materials for internal and external advisory boards Promote the PHSR among Cancer Center members and university Other duties as assigned

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at: $75,000 - $105,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
    Master's or PhD degree in biostatistics, statistics, economics, health services research, epidemiology, or related quantitative field. Three years of experience using databases and statistical software (SAS and/or Stata) for analysis and cancer research using Cancer Registry (state or SEER) datasets and medical claims (e.g., SEER-Medicare, Medicare and/or Medicaid claims, All-Payer Claims Databases)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with statistical analysis and programming including SAS, Stata, and mapping software (ArcGIS, Tableau)
  • Experience conducting cancer prevention and control research
  • Experience supervising team members
  • Experience working with multiple data sources including large administrative databases and medical records
  • Experience working with cancer registry data
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Knowledge of health services research, program evaluation, or other patient outcomes research methods Extensive knowledge and skills with database management and analysis. Excellent verbal and communication skills. Collaborative work skills Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks on tight deadlines. Ability to work independently
