Job Summary

The Office of Financial Aid at Columbus State University is looking for an energetic and motivated individual who is committed to providing excellent financial aid services to current and prospective students and their families. The Office of Financial Aid plays an integral role in the enrollment and retention efforts of the institution and as such, the Financial Aid Counselor must have a passion for education and customer service. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Aid and receiving daily work assignments from the Financial Aid Coordinator, this position performs a variety of activities to administer federal, state and institutional funds.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Provide information, counseling financial aid recipients and applicants using knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations
  • Execute packaging funds from all sources using knowledge of federal needs analysis and review financial aid files by performing verification of data
  • Initiate follow up items requiring clarification or any file discrepancies; monitoring and revising financial aid awards accordingly due to changes in enrollment, EFC, housing or resources
  • Review eligibility and awards students for the HOPE Scholarship program, federal entitlement and loan programs, and institutional funds; reviewing federal aid applications and performing verification in accordance with federal policies; analyzing tax documents, leave and earning statements, and other benefit statements
  • Counsel students on the application process and Satisfactory Academic Progress policies; coordinating additional specialized aid programs such as Federal Work Study, Appeals, and internal/external scholarship programs; and conducting educational outreach sessions on financial aid for on-campus and public sectors


Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; or a minimum of two years of college and two or more years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge and experience in National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and Common Origination and Disbursement Database (COD); an understanding of verification, unusual enrollment history, default, citzenship and satisfactory academic progress (SAP); knowledge of student's eligibility as determined by the Department of Education; and an understanding and ability to process verification through Campus Logic. The selected candidate must possess excellent customer service and communication skills; the ability to learn and interpret federal and state scholarship regulations and procedures; the ability to analyze applications in relationship to financial need; strong public speaking skills for financial aid presentations to faculty, staff, students, and parents; and experience and knowledge of Ellucian Banner 9 financial aid functions.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous financial aid experience and experience with BANNER is preferred.

Proposed Salary

The annualized salary range is $37,253 - $40,784 and includes full benefits.
