The Department of Art at Newman University, Wichita, KS, is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Digital Design to bring our newly developed Digital Design major to fruition. The ideal candidate will have proven success in teaching varied courses including principles of design, design thinking, mastering industry standard software, web design, UX/UI, motion graphics, and online publishing. We invite candidates who are energized by the developing and shifting dynamics of 21st-century design and who investigate technology's relationship to power, pedagogy, and curriculum development.

Faculty members contribute to the effectiveness of the University by working collaboratively on instructional policy, curriculum development, and staff development. They are models of educated persons, exemplifying the virtues they seek to inspire in students -- curiosity, tolerance, honesty, fairness, and respect for diversity. In addition to a teaching load of 24 credit hours per academic year, our faculty also advise and mentor students both academically and professionally.

 

The position begins August 2023. 9-month contract. Benefits starting after first 30 days. Tuition waiver for faculty member, spouse and eligible dependents after one year of employment.

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  • A Master's of Fine Arts degree.
  • Proven success in teaching varied courses in design.
  • Interest in collaborating with other disciplinary colleagues; ability to work well with diverse personalities.
  • An understanding of historic and modern design practices.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; tactful and flexible.
  • A commitment to live the Newman University mission.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
