AACC is a tenure granting institution. Any candidate hired as a full-time faculty member may be eligible to apply for tenure in the future based on institutional eligibility requirements. This position requires regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on class schedule and other assigned duties. Flexible teaching schedules may be available based student need. AACC offers daytime, evening, weekend classes, hybrid and online classes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

A strong applicant for this faculty position in the English Department will demonstrate a proven ability to teach courses both face-to-face and online and have demonstrated experience with curricular innovations designed to support a diverse student population with varied needs. First-year composition constitutes the primary teaching responsibility, with the possibility of teaching sophomore literature, and the faculty member will be expected to work collaboratively on departmental and college committees and initiatives. Preference will be given to those with a demonstrated commitment to first-year writing, integrated reading and writing, and/or developmental education. In addition to these commitments, we welcome candidates with related interests in multi-lingual writing.

Responsibilities:
• Thirty faculty load hour annual contract taught during fall and spring terms – including face-to-face, online or hybrid instruction and instruction at off-site locations (including high schools) depending on student need
• Six office hours per week during the fall and spring terms which may include student advising and mentoring
• Teaching and assessing student learning
• Professional development
• Department, school and college/community service

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time or part-time faculty
2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities
3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.)
4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs
5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community
6. Recruiting and marketing
7. Devising retention strategies and activities
8. Establishing and strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleges

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in English, composition, or a closely related field
• Minimum of 24 credits of experience teaching college composition
• In addition to a cover letter and a CV, candidates must submit an original essay assignment for a composition course that requires students to incorporate research. In addition, candidates should submit a corresponding rubric addressing specifically how the assignment will be assessed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in English, composition, or a closely related field
• Proven excellence as a creative, effective college composition teacher with at least 30 credits of experience (community college preferred)
• Proven excellence in teaching a diverse student body (e.g., returning adult-leaners, non-native, first-generation college students)
• Expertise in Learning Outcomes Assessment
• Bilingual or other language proficiency.
