Position Description:
Primarily responsible for the coordination, development, implementation, and assessment of innovative programs and initiatives regarding the recruitment, admission, and enrollment/yield of culturally, socio-economically, geographically underserved students for the purpose of meeting diverse and inclusive enrollment goals. In support of UCLA and Undergraduate Admission (UA) efforts to meet annual new student recruitment and enrollment goals, the Assistant Director oversees the planning, execution and evaluation of various new student recruitment and yield activities in collaboration with campus partners to leverage diversity competency, and participates in application review. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Assistant Director will support all Undergraduate Admission efforts in attracting and yielding an academically competitive, talented and broadly diverse applicant pool of California resident and domestic non-resident students and assist these students through the admission and enrollment process. The individual in this position will be asked to visit secondary schools and community colleges in California, across the U.S. providing substantive information about UCLA specifically, and the University of California generally (as required). Time commitments outside of business hours (evenings/weekends) are often necessary. Provide information on admissions requirements, processes and deadlines; financial aid; housing, and campus services.

While the Assistant Director may be assigned specific target populations and may specialize in those areas, the incumbent will be sufficiently well-versed to work with a variety of prospective student audiences. Maintain a full schedule of school/college visits, making oral presentations and conducting workshops. Represent UA/UCLA in special joint programs with community representatives, campus partners, schools, colleges, and UC campuses. Advise prospective applicants and parents/care givers. Cultivate, establish and maintain working relations with campus partners, UCLA student organizations, UCLA departments, counselors, administrators, and other school personnel. Based on analysis, designs, implements and participates in activities to increase the yield of highly able and other target recruitment populations. Participate in application review providing information on targeted schools and community pre-college programs, and by reading applications, assessing applicant academic performance, and recommending admission using established guidelines.

In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
