POSITION SUMMARY

Founded in 1964, Innis College serves as both an academic and social community for undergraduate students within the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. We provide an intimate setting and informal home for about 2,200 undergraduate students. We value student involvement and leadership and are proud to be the only college at U of T to ensure parity-governance between students and staff/faculty. Reporting to the Principal of Innis College and the Executive Director Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Science, the Associate Director, Advancement, Innis College has responsibility for significant advancement activity including undertaking a comprehensive alumni relations initiative and revenue generation program for the College. The Associate Director, Advancement provides leadership in the development and implementation of fundraising for Innis College and directs, plans, and implements an effective program to provide excellence in stewardship resulting in enhanced contacted with individuals, corporations, and foundations. The incumbent will also assist the Executive Director Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Science with alumni activities, administration, and policy including the operation and support of volunteer committees related to overall advancement activities as it relates specifically to Innis College and resources permitting.

A key function of the Associate Director, Advancement is to make a special effort to understand the priorities and culture of Innis College, and how these priorities and culture relate to development activities. The incumbent regularly attends and participates in Faculty advancement meetings, at prospect strategy meetings for overall fundraising initiatives and at donor meetings In addition, the incumbent will provide quick and accurate research tailored to Innis College and its community so that quality proposals can be produced expeditiously; provide input into written materials related to the solicitation of donors with coordinated moves management and donor recognition systems; prepare reports for donor stewardship; and ensure integration with university-wide prospect and donor clearance and tracking systems.

The incumbent will develop relationships with alumni and donors through effective outreach activities, volunteer management, and communications. She/he will be responsible for communicating Innis’ goals and aspirations through effective programming, print and web-based communication, organizing and publicizing public events and fostering links with communities outside of the College.

The active involvement of key members, including the Principal of Innis College and the Executive Director of Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Science, the university community and volunteers, is essential to the overall success of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

Experience:

Minimum of seven years of progressively more senior experience in advancement, preferably in an educational institution. Experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset.

Skills:

Word processing, database software and spreadsheet programs, proficiency with scheduling software, email and Internet applications.

Other:

    Experience in planning and implementing development programs.

    Demonstrated experience supervising staff, preferably in a unionized environment.

    Ability to work in a hectic and results oriented environment.

    Experience using databases in the analysis and management of information, preferably using ARBOR.

    Exceptional interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills.

    Detail oriented, strong organizational and analytical skills.

    Evidence of leadership skills, excellent judgement, initiative, tact, diplomacy, and creativity.

    Proven ability to motivate and manage others, i.e., volunteers and staff.

    Proven understanding and application of equity, diversity, and inclusion theories as applicable for advancement programs and initiatives.

    Excellent investigative skills.

    Strong project management and multi-tasking skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

    Proven proposal and presentation skills.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Ability to work frequent evenings and weekends required.
