Job Description:

The Assistive Technology Program Coordinator position supports accommodations and services for students with disabilities. The Coordinator will work and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff in seeking out cutting edge technology and universal design solutions in order to open doors of equitable access and opportunities for success. This position will be responsible for organizing and providing accommodated testing for exams, tests, and quizzes by partnering with SAS team members, faculty, and the Registrar’s office and by recruiting and supervising student test proctors. This position also is responsible for the coordination and production of educational materials in accessible formats as well as managing notetaking accommodations. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys collaborating with others, has strong organization skills and is detail-oriented. The Coordinator must demonstrate a strong background in the use of assistive technology and be innovative and creative in seeking out new technology options.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Rehabilitation Services, Assistive Technology, or related field required plus 3-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience providing technical assistance and training preferred.

  • Experience working in higher education with students with disabilities preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with diverse students, faculty, staff, and vendors.

  • Ability to identify problems and successfully recommend solutions, including processes, procedures, and development of implementation plans and demonstrated ability to follow through.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively with a team.

  • Knowledge of and experience working with various learning management systems (ex: Canvas) as well as disability accommodations related software (ex: Kurzweil, Glean, Otter AI, etc.) and video conferencing/lecture capturing technologies (ex: Zoom).

  • Knowledge of the latest trends in higher education and disability services with a focus on assistive technology, alternative media, and accessibility.

  • Evidence of cultural competence, including disability as diversity and taking into account the intersectionality of disabled students.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

  • Understanding of relevant disability related laws, regulations, and best practices (ex: ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, FERPA, current WCAG standards, UD, etc.).

  • Ability to supervise student workers.

  • Skill in accommodated testing principles, coordination, and notetaking accommodations.

  • Flexibility to evolve with changing departmental and university mission, vision, and operations.

  • Ability to provide accurate information, assess concerns, and address them as needed.
