POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant Director of Admissions 

College of Law

                                                                                                                                               

 

The University of Tennessee College of Law invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Admissions. Under the direction of the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid (DAFA), the Assistant Director (AD) will recruit prospective students, as well as counsel and advise them about the application process, basics of financial aid and the benefits of attending The University of Tennessee College of Law. The AD will review application materials, sometimes interview potential candidates, and make admissions decisions for the approval of the DAFA. The AD will oversee a recruiting plan to attract a diverse student body nationally and locally, while also finding new ways to reach applicants digitally with the use of social media and/or other forms of online marketing. The AD, with guidance from the DAFA, will oversee and execute pre-admission and post-admission recruitment events, both on- and off-campus.

 

The Assistant Director:

 

    Produces a yearly schematic of potential recruitment events, dates, locations, etc. and provides to DAFA for approval to ensure that funding is available to cover the costs of the travel and maximum return is achieved. Travels on behalf of the Law School to recruiting events representing the Law School and meeting with prospective law school applicants, in both the fall and spring. (Heavier travel in the fall and will include weekend and night travel. In the spring, travel is to help yield those we have identified as admitted applicants.) Reach out to and meet with pre-law advisors around the region, and sometimes country, at various undergraduate schools. Speaks to groups of potential applicants, when the DAFA is unable.Outreach to applicants and admitted applicants, including social media campaigns (with the help of the Communications Office in the Law School), telephone calls, emails, personal or virtual interactions with applicants on a daily basis, and other ways to attract the best law school applicants to attend UT Law. Serves as the first point of contact for counseling sessions for walk-in visitors and applicants who contact the Law School via phone, email, etc.Leads event planning of the Admitted Student Day and other local yield events. Devises a yearly plan to maximize the promotional budget for marketing initiatives, which would have the largest impact in attracting students to attend UT.The AD will utilize UNITE, our law school admissions software program, to review about 300-500 files a year and make admissions decisions, which will be reviewed by the DAFA or the Admissions Committee, understanding the director has final approval authority. Utilizes UNITE to devise reports to make recommendations about strategic recruiting plans to help increase yield.Schedules tours for visiting applicants; hires and trains student tour guides or student volunteers.

Qualifications
Required Experience and Abilities

 

Bachelor’s Degree and two-three years of experience and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience required, which includes legal experience though working either in a law office or by law school courses.

 

Master’s Degree or JD Degree is preferred. 

 

A valid driver’s license is required. 

 

 

The candidate must have:

    The flexibility to spend multiple days and nights away from Knoxville, TN, and will work some evenings and weekends. Outstanding interpersonal skills and be able to speak to different constituents while also being comfortable with public speaking. Excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to use social media easily and fluently and use multiple software platforms is critical to being a successful candidate. Energy and enthusiasmKnowledge of graduate/law school admissions practices and knowledge of the legal profession preferred.
