Position Summary:

The communications manager is responsible for setting and executing the communications and engagement strategy for JHM's Central Human Resources leadership and departments to provide effective communication to internal audiences. This leader will develop and implement an operationally efficient communication plan that addresses the needs of very diverse stakeholders in a consistent manner. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, this leader partners directly with functional leaders to develop appropriate transformation communication plans and ensure execution.

  • Serve as a trusted partner and strategic advisor to JHM's Central Human Resources leadership and departments to provide effective communication to internal audiences.
  • Lead development and implementation of internal and change management communications strategies; build awareness and understanding of programs and initiatives in support of organizational and department-level transformation efforts.
  • Partner with the Sr. Internal Communications Specialist for Human Resources to create, manage and monitor multi-faceted projects/campaigns that inform, engage and inspire employees around human resources priorities and support of key organizational goals.
  • Draft content and messages for various communications channels (print, web, video, etc.) in support of internal communications and change management projects.
  • Collaborate with the enterprise Marketing and Communication staff on internal and change management communications efforts.
  • Look for new and innovative approaches to advance communication with internal audiences; design and implement communications systems and process improvements.
    Monitor and analyze communications effectiveness and trends to help inform and improve future projects.

Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations or closely related field required. Master's degree in related field preferred. Experience working with change management communications desirable.



Required Work Experience:

A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in managing project/program in public relations or communications including 3 years providing project/program or team leadership, involving project life cycle methodologies, change management or budget/expense management is required. Requires demonstrated experience in high quality writing and editing, working successfully on deadline and designing and implementing communications plans and strategies. Demonstrated experience in supervising and implementing effective communications plans and strategies

Department Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
  • Knowledge of internal communications strategies, social media, and other technologies, including Intranet/Web and other e-communication/interactive tools. Ability to work with high-level leaders and others to create and implement communications campaigns. A clear understanding of employee and change management communications and crisis communications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, desktop publishing, web-based software programs, and Web-tracking tools.
  • Experience working in a large, matrixed environment with multiple executives, departments, and goals.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and with the highest levels of leadership.
  • Ability to manage a wide array of projects simultaneously.
  • Client management and proven experience developing and implementing effective internal communications plans and strategies.
  • Experience developing and managing change management communications strategies.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with a variety of communications channels and tools
  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to draft quality content for a variety of internal communications audiences.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Knowledge and use of AP Style and ability to apply institutional brand standards consistently.
