Systems Administrator I

The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a full-time Systems Administrator I to join our Information Technology and Resources (ITR) team.

The Systems Administrator I reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Deputy Chief Information Officer. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Deputy Chief Information Officer. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Type: Full-time, Benefits Eligible

Job Purpose:

The Systems Administrator I will maintain and support server operating systems, including Windows and Mac, as well as ensure reliable operation of campus-wide administrative systems by performing system maintenance, back-ups, recovery and file maintenance.

The Systems Administrator I will also support user application software as related to the university’s administrative information systems.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Schedules, installs, and tests system software upgrades and security patches.
  • Supports administrative system users and IT staff to configure software and resolve technical issues.
  • Monitors and maintains software licensing and maintenance agreements.
  • Manages user authentication systems and user group memberships.
  • Manages and supports G Suite for education security (email, etc.).
  • Diagnoses software and hardware problems related to administrative systems as needed and appropriate.
  • Creates and supports interfaces between administrative systems and other systems.
  • Performs other system administrator duties as may be required.

Salary: $55,000 annually

Schedule: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (7.5 hours/day with some evenings and weekends to meet needs of the department may be required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent
