Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley's Rausser College of Natural Resources is home to top-ranked programs across the biological, ecological, economic, nutritional, and social sciences. Our 120 faculty, 2,500 undergraduates, and 400 graduate students advance our collective understanding of climate change; biodiversity loss; economic and social inequality; food and water security; nutrition and disease; energy technology and policy; and sustainable land management for the health of all people and the planet through world-class teaching, innovative and multidisciplinary research, and public outreach. Rausser College is composed of five academic units (Agricultural and Resource Economics; Environmental Science, Policy, and Management; Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology; Plant and Microbial Biology; and Energy and Resources), and several research centers and facilities. A multi-unit Dean's Office provides administrative, student services, development, facilities, and IT support.

Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Facilities Management Specialist 3 has primary responsibility for administering space, access, general maintenance, tracking of repair services, move planning/coordination, communications and safety for the college's occupants housed in several buildings on campus. These buildings house faculty, staff, active labs, teaching facilities and specialized facilities. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in building management and coordination issues, such as health and safety, hazardous waste disposal, equipment and chemical inventory, waste minimization, fire and life safety, emergency response, facility design and maintenance, etc.

    Serves as liaison with occupants and campus/external agencies, eg., Facilities Services, Academic Facilities, EH&S, regarding safety, access, maintenance, remodeling, and construction activities. Coordinates, monitors, and tracks all maintenance, custodial, grounds, and other service requests for assigned facilities. Notifies building occupants of events such as utility shutdown, repairs, security problems, and lighting modifications. Coordinates maintenance and repair of departmental equipment. Acts as equipment custodian through the Berkeley Equipment Tracking system and conducts inventory controls. Assists departmental leadership with budget development for moves and minor building infrastructure upgrades. Actively participates in committees and/or meetings concerning capital improvements to departmental facilities. Acts as Building Coordinator for campus emergency/disaster preparedness; serves as communication liaison between campus service agencies and building occupants, prepares building response plans, provides training, and coordinates education and planning for occupants. Recommends facilities-related procedures and solutions; works with internal/external agencies and contractors regarding existing contract terms or solicits new contracts. Serves as college-wide ergonomics coordinator, conducts and documents required ergonomics reviews. Follows up to document that recommendations are implemented. Coordinates emergency repairs during and after work hours. Conducts periodic rounds to inspect for security, fire and accident hazards, and building irregularities. Oversees security systems and access control.

Required Qualifications
    Thorough knowledge and work experience in areas of and/or ability to learn about building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, campus and departmental principles, and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks. Interpersonal skills including strong service orientation and effective problem-solving techniques. Seasoned and effective skills to multi-task and prioritize daily activities. Knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts. Must be able to work weekends, after-hours, and holidays, if needed, and when building emergency situations arise. Must be reliable, adaptable, able to work independently as well as on a team, and meet deadlines. Able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Must be comfortable working in physically strenuous and sometimes demanding conditions.

    Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits
  • This is a full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly. The annual salary for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $67,000.00 - $93,100.00 For information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University visit:
