Departmental Objective:

The College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences focuses on preparing all students to engage actively with the world and discover answers to real-world problems. Using scientific, mathematical, and statistical methodologies, we educate our students to engage in evidence-based thinking, analyze problems and questions from multiple perspective in the classroom, laboratory, and in the broader world. We offer degree programs in biology, chemistry, psychology, neuroscience, physics, computer and electrical engineering, computer science and related fields, and mathematics. We offer multiple minors in these and related areas and support multiple inter-disciplinary minors.

Purpose of the Position:

Improve the safety and well-being of the campus community by ensuring labs and studio spaces meet federal, state, and local safety standards, thereby minimizing risk of injury and illness.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Knowledge of lab safety, occupational health and safety regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of proper chemical hygiene and biohazard safety.

Ability to research and update safety practices in lab and studio spaces.

Ability to don and wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator.

Ability to deliver information and explain procedures to a broad range of stakeholders.

Ability to coordinate with different offices on campus on matters of lab and studio safety.

Ability to support the human donor lab and handle human anatomical material.

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent time management skills

Ability to work occasionally after hours, on weekends, or extended hours for inspections, training, or emergency situations.

Strong computer skills and ability to learn new hardware, software, and technology.Attention to detail.

Experience with lab environments and equipment.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Required Education: High School Diploma

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in occupational safety or related scientific or
technological area, OSHA 30, HAZWOPER

Preferred Experience: Work experience in environmental health, chemical hygiene, occupational safety and health,or related scientific, technological, or medical field.

Salary Information:

Starting at $45,100, Commensurate with Education and Experience
