The Department of Education at Randolph College invites applicants for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position in Education with a focus on reading, curriculum and instruction, or related fields. Employment begins July 2023; report date is mid-August. The faculty member will contribute to a rich tradition of teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, demonstrating scholarship, and providing professional service in a setting with excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Successful candidates must have a strong interest in and commitment to teacher education, collaboration, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service and demonstrate evidence of and commitment to student-centered practices.

Successful candidates will possess a doctorate in Education (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) or ABD with anticipated completion prior to July 2023 with a concentration in literacy, reading, curriculum and teaching, or closely related field. Qualifications:

  • Three or more years teaching experience in an elementary, middle and/or secondary classroom (valid teaching license/certificate preferred)
  • Familiarity with the CAEP accreditation process
  • Experience with and/or willingness to prepare preservice teachers to successfully teach PreK-12 students through effective coaching
  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate with partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in instruction and supervision
  • Willingness to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction
  • Ability to teach introductory/advanced courses in a variety of areas including action research
  • Experience or willingness to support students in clinical experiences

Requirements:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in reading/literacy, diversity, inclusion, and other general education courses as needed in a teaching-focused department
  • Engage in active scholarship
  • Supervise field experiences and/or residency/internship experiences
  • Supervise and assess student teachers
  • Participate in service to the college, community, and profession
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students
  • Demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity, collaboration, and justice

Applicants should have an active research agenda that leads to high-quality peer-reviewed publications and the ability to mentor student projects. The successful applicant will be responsible for advising students and participating with a departmental team engaged in continuous improvement efforts.

Tenure-track faculty teach six courses per academic year, three per semester. Randolph’s innovative TAKE2 curriculum includes four seven-week sessions in an academic year allowing students to sharpen their focus with immersive learning, gain life balance with a more flexible schedule, and, most importantly, thrive within a student-ready campus.
