Applications are now being accepted for the position of Associate Dean of Research and Innovation, beginning March 1, 2023, at San Diego Mesa College.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate personnel through a lens of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
  • Support, facilitate, or provide opportunities for the team to engage in equity-minded and innovation-oriented professional learning to foster growth and development.
  • Assist in employee recruitment and selection processes that aligns with the values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
  • Supervise and coordinate the College’s institutional research functions in support of the College’s Vision of being the Leading College of Equity & Excellence.
  • Provide leadership in the development of College policy directives in research.
  • Design and maintain a Project Management system to assign, review, and track requests.
  • Through ongoing collaboration with requestors, design, develop, implement, and disseminate research projects and reports guided by short and long term planning priorities.
  • Review and analyze external research related to policy and practice in higher education and bring forward recommendations to relevant Campus committees, programs, and services.
  • Collaborate with districtwide research personnel to evaluate and provide feedback around our ability to build and sustain information capacity.
  • Design systematic and sustainable practices that foster innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and statewide practitioners regarding trends and innovations in research and assessment projects and capacity improvements.
  • Support, through research and evaluation, the Colleges pursuit and allocation of internal and external resources that align with our strategic plan.
  • Develop and deploy a system to support strategic integration of new initiatives, projects, and funding sources.
  • Provide leadership around the integration of Learning outcomes assessment into research and evaluation efforts.
  • In collaboration with the Faculty Outcomes Coordinator, support the development of professional learning around authentic learning assessment
  • Supervise the maintenance of technology that supports the Learning Outcomes process
  • Serve as member, chair, or advisor to College committees as needed.
  • Serve on SDCCD Institutional Review Board.


Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
In compliance with policies adopted by the Board of Trustees, applicants for this position must show evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
  1. Possession of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution AND one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s assignment; OR,
  2. Possession of a lifetime California Community College Supervisor Credential.

  • Principles, techniques, and methodology used in research.
  • Strategies to engage a campus in effective use of research to inform and assess strategic and integrated planning.
  • Common higher education data structures including common data sources and information flow.
  • Strategies to foster and sustain a culture of innovation.
  • Use systematic improvement models in an educational context.
  • Assessment techniques related to teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Effective use of authentic learning assessment to improve learning and student success.
  • General guidelines around shared governance and decision-making in California community colleges.
  • Federal laws and ethical practices governing research.

  • Proficient in taking advantage of technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

Training & Experience:
  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree.

The following are also required for this academic/educational administrator assignment:
  • 1) One (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s assignment,AND
  • 2) Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
OR
  • 1) Possession of a lifetime California Community College Chief Administrative Officer Credential, AND
  • 2) Two (2) years of recent management experience in an institution of higher education,AND
  • 3) Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

Pay Information:
Range 16 ($8,130.06- $13,003.86) per month based on the current Management Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the Management Employees Handbook. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment. The San Diego Community College District serves 130,000 students annually through three two-year colleges and six Continuing Education campuses. The three colleges, San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges, offer associate degrees and certificates in occupational programs that prepare students for entry-level jobs, and arts and sciences programs that transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Continuing Education offers adults the opportunity to renew their learning experiences through noncredit vocational, basic skills, life skills and enrichment classes at sites throughout the city. The District also provides education to over 42,000 service personnel at military bases in 15 states. 

The Continuing Education campuses offer adults the opportunity to renew their learning experiences through noncredit vocational, basic skills, life skills, and enrichment classes at sites throughout the city. A number of special programs are unique to the city, including KSDS-FM all-jazz radio, the Center for Competitive and Applied Technologies, and the Workplace Learning Resource Center.

The San Diego Community College District is governed by its five-member, locally elected Board of Trustees and three student members serving on a rotating basis. Shared governance activities involve faculty, students, and staff in the development of solutions to key policy and budget issues. The five trustees are elected in even-numbered years to four-year terms by the voters of San Diego. The Chancellor, the District's chief executive officer, is responsible for carrying out the policies approved by the Board of Trustees. 

The District is in the midst of $1.555 billion in new construction and renovations at the three colleges and Continuing Education campuses throughout the city.
