The Institutional Research department provides ongoing analysis of student, employee, and community data to enable Highline College to become more equitable, inclusive, and representative of its community in its learning environments, programs, services, and partnerships. In addition to regular data-gathering and review, the IR Analyst generates reports to the college's leadership, the campus community, and the community at large, as well as to specific grant funders and contractors. The analyst works under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Research. The IR Analyst will work with individuals at all levels of the institution as well as with community members.

This position is a Classified full-time position, which is eligible for overtime. Hours of work may include evening, weekend and travel. This position is eligible for remote/hybrid work subject to supervisor approval.

Salary Information: The salary range stated above reflects the starting step of Range 54 (Step D) and ending step (Step L) salary for this classified position. Based on salary placement of Step D, it will take 4 years to reach Step L on the salary schedule. This does not reflect any contractual changes, legislative mandated salary increases or Cost of Living Increases (COLA's) that may be approved in the future.

Essential Tasks

Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research this position will:

  • Assist in developing and establishing procedures and policies regarding data collection, documentation, assessment and analysis for new and evolving equity-related programs and initiatives;
  • Work with Title III Project Director and various grant directors, staff, and community advisory board members to develop and track program outcomes;
  • Analyze data and conduct research to identify program data needs and evaluate outcomes;
  • Track changes to regulations, policies and rules relating to grant programs in order to ensure that compliance is met regarding documentation, assessment and reporting of outcomes;
  • Assist in preparation of complex comprehensive summaries, recommendations and progress reports including preparation of regular performance reports for the Title III grant and other grants as necessary;
  • Input and maintain tracking of grants in PeopleSoft finance system;
  • Support the data needs of Highline institutions and programs including the Welcome Back Center, the Teaching and Early Learning BAS Program, Placement and Testing, and the learning communities (e.g., Umoja);
  • Extract data from both external sources (e.g. the National Student Clearinghouse) and the college data management systems using SQL Server or PeopleSoft queries for use in analysis;
  • Collaborate with IR colleagues to increase data literacy on campus, including assisting with interpretation of data for end users with all levels of experience with data;
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis and data extraction for public records requests, student outreach and other projects;
  • Provide support for focus group and survey administration and analysis of results
  • Produce tables, graphs, and narrative analysis that communicate research findings to internal and external audiences;
  • Maintain comprehensive Tableau dashboards.
  • Ability to:
    • Use statistical software, spreadsheets, pivot tables, and database querying software (i.e. Excel, SQL Server, MS Access or other relational database software);
    • Disaggregate data using a lens of inquiry focused on increasing racial equity;
    • Transform raw data into informative and usable information;
    • Modify existing Tableau dashboards to align with changes in business processes;
    • Communicate clearly with excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Write and present information in a clear and concise manner;
    • Demonstrate sensitivity working with individuals from diverse social, economic, ethnic, academic and cultural backgrounds;
    • Prioritize projects and tasks independently and meet deadlines;
    • Work collaboratively with the college and larger community.
    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field; AND
  • Two years of full time (or four years of part time) work experience in a research setting, preferably in educational institutional research; AND
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to translate raw data into information and knowledge through the use of data visualizations and written reports.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field;
    • Experience with monitoring grant outcomes and grant reporting;
    • Experience collecting and analyzing qualitative data;
    • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio;
    • Ability to build complex Tableau dashboards.
