The Department of Psychology at The University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Behavioral Science beginning Fall 2023.

We seek an individual with expertise in quantitative methods that complements existing strengths in our department who will collaborate on innovative statistical scholarship with our quantitative faculty, and who will continue and enhance a long-standing tradition of excellence in methodology in the department. Current expertise includes longitudinal data analysis, missing data analysis, and multilevel modeling. Principal areas of interest should include multivariate analysis and structural equation modeling. Areas of quantitative specialization within these broad categories are open. We welcome substantive interests in areas of health science that are of vital concern to society and that offer opportunities for collaboration within our department and across the College of Health Sciences and the University. Existing strengths in the department include clinical and health psychology, social psychology, substance use and addictions, multicultural psychology, child/adolescent/young adult health, and clinical neuroscience. The position will address teaching and research needs in quantitative methods that are central to our undergraduate BA and BS, and graduate curriculums.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Publish research relevant to quantitative methods.

  • Mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

  • Seek and secure external research funding that will support productive research.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and service activities.

Qualifications

Required:

1. A PhD (or equivalent) in psychology or a closely related field, or completion of the degree by August 2023.

2. Demonstrated ability to publish research in major peer-reviewed journals closely aligned with the field, Department, and position.

3. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in teaching graduate and undergraduate students.

4. Demonstrated success and/or evidence of promise in obtaining external funding that will support productive research.

5. Demonstrated ability in applying quantitative methods to enhance rigor in substantive research.

6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

7. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.

8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.


Preferred:

1. Demonstrated research interests in quantitative methods focusing on multivariate analysis and structural equation modeling. More specific areas of interest are open.

2. Demonstrated research interests that have the potential for student involvement and collaboration as well as contribution within and beyond the Department, such as in the College of Health Sciences, the Department of Computer Science and Statistics, the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, the School of Pharmacy, and the College of Nursing.

3. Demonstrated ability in mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
